What complete failure and disgrace

President Joe Biden compared a small kitchen fire at his home in Delaware 19 years ago to the devastation in Lahaina, Maui, telling victims he had a sense of what it was like to “lose a home.”

“I don’t want to compare difficulties, but we have a little sense, Jill and I, what it’s like to lose a home,” he said while at the Lahaina Civic Center.

“To make a long story short, I almost lost my wife, my ‘67 Corvette, and my cat. But all kidding aside, I watched the firefighters, the way they responded…And they ran into flames to save my wife and save my family. Not a joke,” he added.

An Associated Press article from August 2, 2004, on the fire called it “small” and “contained to the kitchen.” It was under control in 20 minutes, according to the fire company chief.

It said:

Lightning struck the home of Sen. Joseph Biden, starting a small fire that was contained to the kitchen.

No one was injured in Sunday’s fire, which started amid a storm that caused serious flooding in Pennsylvania and knocked out power to hundreds of Delaware homes and businesses.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the house, but were able to keep the flames from spreading beyond the kitchen, said Cranston Heights Fire Company Chief George Lamborn.

“Luckily, we got it pretty early,” he said. “The fire was under control in 20 minutes.”

There are 850 people still unaccounted for,  Mayor Richard Bissen said in a Facebook post on Monday. So far, 115 have been confirmed dead, according to Maui County.

Many of those dead are feared to be children, Hawaii Gov. Josh Green confirmed Sunday. “That is possible that there will be many children,” he said on CBS News’ “Face the Nation.”

There is still 15 percent of Lahaina to be searched, which includes larger residential buildings where remains might be more difficult to recover, according to Green.

Just like Biden, you are stretching to make a point and failing miserably.

As an aside, a good friend of mine lives in Maui. She owns a lot of vacation rental properties on the island. I just today found out that she is safe and doing fine, (don't know about her properties though). She did have to briefly evacuate.

No. I am saying I don't care if Biden said those things. If he did, it was weak and a dumb mistake but not something earth shattering. People say dumb stuff all the time particularly during times of crisis when nothing one says can possibly be enough. Read your own posts, you'll see exactly what I mean by this.

Biden has a nasty habit of trying to connect with people by sharing personal experiences.  That's not really the nasty part, as often it is acceptable to empathize and connect with people going through traumatic situations by sharing somewhat similar situations. The nasty part is Biden has a track record for embellishing to try and connect and when it's not factual it obviously does more harm than good.
He has stated in the past he lost his son in Iraq or Afghanistan when talking to Gold Medal families or wounded soldiers. He should have learned his lesson there. He got called out and if I were a wounded vet or had lost a family member overseas I would be pissed if I found out his son died of cancer years later and it may or may not be related. It's an unnecessary stretch and it weakens his credibility

Then the Maui fire verses his house fire contained to the kitchen. Was there a lot of smoke? Where they concerned? Maybe so.. but in the words of Biden, come on man, that was in such bad taste to compare those two and it's likely he exaggerated/lied about it. And one place there is no room "joking" (about his cat I assume, maybe his car) is at a meeting like that.

Basically, he deserves the backlash, he earned it.

Biden never made a dime outside of govt. Every penny he ever generated for himself was tax payer $$$.

Using the tax code to your advantage is not the same as being a career crooked politician...there, that's the answer to the next response.

I agree that he should be called out on this unfortunate habit of his. It is always better to focus on the people involved in the current or immediate tragedy. It is not uncommon for people to do this because these are awkward situations and knowing the right thing to say can be problematical, but it is always in poor taste. Even saying “I know how you feel” is out of line because how you feel is not what is important, what is is how they feel. It is surprising that no one has coached him on this, like for example his wife Jill. Then again, he may be someone who doesn't heed other folk's good advice.

The excuses go on and on. This is supposed to be the CEO of the country but nobody holds him to any account.

Nobody really thinks he's running anything - both sides.

Do you really think that nobody holds him (President Biden) to any account? U.S. Presidents including Biden are likely among the most criticized and commented on of all folks, and rightly so. Biden among many others is held to account almost daily.  During the Democratic controlled 117th United States Congress, Republican members submitted nine resolutions to impeach Biden. Clearly, some folks are at least attempting to hold him accountable to the highest degree.

That these attempts to impeach Biden have gone nowhere so far. This says a lot about how accountable they think he should be held.

Believe it or not, all the press reports are not the same, and the press is not everybody. Moreover, the press only reports the stories, what happens next is up to the rest of us.

Mainstream media is about 95% in lockstep. They use the same verbiage in reporting, the same buzzwords and headlines. It's almost like they get marching orders every morning.
