Never use free weights but only machines and at all costs avoid injuries.
The goal is to age healthily and practice
until the end of your life.

All pros train on machines, free weights are only
for shooting. Easier to move around in a well-lit area of the gym with barbell and dumbbell.

Never do a deadlift. The most destructive exercise.
Avoid squats and bench presses.

No one is a warrior, no one has the same morpho anato.
Tom Platz, for example, has the characteristics of a dwarf that allowed him to develop his legs and prevent injuries with squat.

Never copy anyone.

You must be a beast

There's just a different look to a physique when it's built with mainly free weights/barbells/dumbbells..look at Ronnie, Branch, Johnnie Jackson, Bertil Fox, Dorian, etc..of course there's some machine work in the program, but meat and potatoes it was free weights.

Yup,heavy weights seem to build a more dense muscle aka "muscle density",and if you need to take time off,you won`t lose as much size in most cases.

What are we talking about here; dumbbell deadlifts and lat pull downs? Or are you suggesting using a trap bar in a land mine is a machine movement?

I think when you mix exercises it creates muscle confusion and your muscle does not know if it should heal and repair it self for growth or if the healing is for survival purposes.  Whatever you choose to use stick with it and be consistent.

You must be a beast of Iron!

^^

Machines have their place, but typically not multi-joint, dont help w/ stabilizers, and most spend the entire session on their butt.
I do like machines, but wont rely on them 100% until I have to when older...

I always start w/ the main barbell movements, and add in machines at the end...

They are however, great when injured, working your way back into it..

Next time, I might start with machines and end with free weights and create a land of confusion for my muscles

I believe back is one body part for which machines are clearly better in the long run.

Chins eventually tear you apart. Pull-downs allow variable weight.

Barbell rows put your lower back in a bad position. Seated rows allow you to remain upright.

I only do weights about once every week or 2 just to make sure my core stays strong.

Only bench, row and zercher squat (with a few reps of grizzly zercher trap raises at the end of each set  ;D). 3 sets each in the 5-8 rep range.

Everything else is machines and bands now. It's just quicker and I can contract the muscles way better.

I think modern plate loaded machines are pretty good and are generally safer than using heavy free weights, especially when it comes to dumbbells.

It’s not an “either/or” type thing, use them both

Based on the sample size I've seen on stuff I follow online, machines, smith machines, leg extensions etc seem to be getting popular again.  All the machines that got criticized are popular agin.

Guys are doing the constant tension pump type shit training.

Seems to work for hypertrophy.

I will not be doing it.

once you build up a significant amount of muscle - like most pros - how much are looking to improve/add on each year , realistically ?? 5-10lbs of muscle IF YOURE LUCKY AND CHEKCING ALL THE BOXES

these pros pay their mortgage based on HOW THEY LOOK nothing else - not how much they bench or how well they lift 400lbs -

machine arent just made in in some guys moms basement - there is science behind the movement setup - as far as PRO bodybuilding goes - the key in training is to ISOLATE not fckn compound moments -

and one MAJOR consideration is the fact you can work the PISS out your chest on a hammer strength chest press but you sure as shit not going to pop a muscle trying to impress idiots who really want to see you fail - do it for the judges and get paid - go back to your big house like Jay cutler and not give a fck how much you bench or bar squat

Dude..agree but some movements you can´t change with machines.
Nautilus is the best but some musle groups need free weight exercises.

it's science catching up with bro science, they've "discovered" get the most out of hypertrophy if you train in a fully stretched position as opposed to contractions. So the trend is doing constant tension where the muscle is overly stretched
