Cozy is an understatement.  Only a midget could stand up in that space.

They would need a second exit in case of fire so presumably a fire escape of some kind at the window.

I doubt this attic was finished to building code.

Many towns now require a second exit to a finished basement for fire escape.

there used to be a pub in my home town that was in an old basement, it was like a catacombs , only one way in or out though.
