Do not watch if bothered by such things, could have been avoided with proper uprights, supports, etc..

My friend told me about this. I didn't want to watch it.

Since I'm striving for a 370 bench now, to beat B. Hank's alleged best bench of 365 from 2002, I don't want to be deterred from it by internalizing any irrational views on bench press risks.

Would there be any benefit for me to watch it, with respect to that concern? Maybe to learn what not to do?

No. You already know to get a spot or use safety racks when alone.

If his back arch wasn't so aggressive the bar wouldn't have immediately rolled to his throat :D

Brutal. Poor lad. Stupid but I've done stupid when young without a spotter. Hits hard.

That’s crazy it just crushed his throat, I would have gotten out of that. You gotta go full body spaz, I understand his throat is crushed but no that ain’t happening. He should have some strength to keep it from rolling on the throat and or should have went crazy. Fuck dying like that.

No benefit. Just don't go for PR's alone, and without proper spotter-arms.
Could have been avoided.

Since from what I can tell, his death was preventable, I will check the video out.

This has to be the one my friend just told me about:

He probably could've survived if it wasn't for the collars on the bar. The weight would've slipped off that side, and then he could've slid out from under easily.

Poor dude. Big arch, too much weight, and no safeties in a giant rack.

Lol...I haven't watched the video yet.

What I meant is:

I don't want to watch it if the accident was unpreventable - like when Scott Mendelson dropped over a grand on himself, and somehow lived:

From what I'm reading above, the death in the OP video was completely preventable, and just the result of lifting stupidity. So it will be easier to watch, IMO.

PS - how did Mendelson survive that?  ???

I just watched it.

That was easy to watch. If that happened to me, I'd be out of it fast - as Rob said.

As a matter of fact...I might try that with 185 or 225 or something, just to see how quickly I can get out of it.

What was strange to me was how much life he had left in him, yet didn't seem to do anything at all to get himself out?  ???

I admittedly do use clips while benching alone, but truly on weight I am 100% certain I could get out of.

Maybe max 265.

On 275+, working out alone, I'd ditch the clips.

If I know I can do something for 10-20+ reps, clips help stabilize the plates / keep them in position.

I only got 250x6 here [I had 7+ in me, but didn't want to do that, being alone], but I'm doing each rep in contest form here - so no risk to me:

I would never do a max alone with no clips. But it seems like that goes without saying for everyone here.

Just brutal and sad to see :( It looks like the far end of the bar got caught in the groove. Maybe that made it more difficult for him to push the weight aside. At first I thought he was unconscious for several moments. But then he started moving his legs.

There was no way Bhanky ever did 365! Not now, not back then, not ever

I never use collars on the weight. I lift alone so I am always ready to dump the weight.

What a fucking moron. The fuck would he need those collars for. And why are these videos always cut before the end. I want to see the actual moment of death. Why pussyfoot around? Like we're gonna show you everything's but not the point when he stops kicking cause that would be to cruel and immoral  ::)
