But...are you really "retired" if you still need to work?  ???

If you don't need to work for money, is working your hobby?  ???

I never understood the gripe "I'm on a fixed income."

It's fixed. Guaranteed. You do jack shit and the government hands you other people's money. What's the problem exactly, you geriatric parasite?

If you don't need the money then do some boomer shit. Mentor a negro. Vote Democrat. Learn to use a computer.

Retirement is soon to be a thing of the past, for most.  The first of the 401k generation are starting to retire, and the mean 401k for that age group is valued at $182,000 .. the median is even more dreadful—something like $70k  :-X

All these articles about the joys of working in one’s retirement are manufacturing consent for the idea that it’s normal and good for Americans to work until they die.

How exactly is an old pensioner a parasite?  They worked and paid taxes for the social services which they now receive.

I understand the concept.

Some people just need something to do.

Nothing wrong with it.

Retirement, in terms of human history, is a new concept that is limited to western cultures. People who retire young and expect to live the same lifestyle are moronic.

They're not getting their own money back. That money is gone. It was given to bankers and bomb makers.

I'm sure they like to pretend that their grandchildren aren't footing the bill, but they are. I just want to hear them say it. "I bought in to a corrupt socialist ponzi scheme which the ass is destined to fall right out of, and I'm content to have my grandkids be stuck holding the bag."

Bought into? Social Security is a tax that 95% of the US population cannot opt out of. Do you know why it was set up? It was long before the people using it were able to make a decision regarding it.

They aren't - but that is lost on some ;D.

In the USA the social security and medicare taxes add up to 15.3 % of a person wages (employees share plus employers share). If you made $50K a year for 10 years that's a scalping of $76,500. Over 40 years that's over $300K that, if it had been invested in a 5% savings account, with monthly contributions equal to the amount taken out in social security, would lead to over $1,000,000.  And none of this takes in account raises over that time or a higher rate of return.

Math apparently scares some people, hahaha

True Adonis nailed it years ago when he said affluent white Democrats regard black people as pets.

I find the boomer generation, on the whole, to be sociopaths who, through token efforts, convince themselves that they're just so goddamn wonderful.

6.2% of our wages go to social security. 1.45% is Medicare. Every individual pays 7.65% into FICA tax. Your employer pays the same amount on your behalf. If this was eliminated employers would not be paying their employees an extra 7.65%.

And those pets are coming for them and those cucked Dems deserve Hades.

Of course I am in the "boomer" category and I know we are nothing compared to the "Greatest Generation" but I do what I can for the good of my family and friends.

Good point. Not being able to opt out of it seems kinda tyrannical.

Counterpoint. Go talk to a social security recipient. Their only complaint will be that their grandkids don't have to pay them more.

I’m not saying SS is great but it is what it is. Are there better systems that aren’t going to bankrupt a nation?

They say if you want less of something, tax it. More of something, subsidize it.

So maybe don't tax work and then subsidize not working and not saving for retirement.

Also end the fed so you can't just brrrr the press to fund dastardly schemes like endless warmonging by debasing the currency.

*bang*

Next case.

I retired and I worked very part time. I make about 20K with my part time job that comes in handy for stuff like car repairs, appliances breaking and vacation.  I don't touch that money and I let it accumulate to use as needed.  In two years I will have my house paid off and in NJ at 65 you can freeze the outrageous house taxes from increasing. My retirement pension is healthy.

I work now, my wife works part time a couple days in a gym on the counter, she is only doing it to help out, she doesnt need the money

I will only be working another 2 years tops, at 60 I can take my pension and leave

The job I do I could also do freelance for the company at a day rate if they wanted me.

I could make a few quid PT at the gym and could be very selective in who I worked with, (no zero willpowered bone idle fuckers who want a rep counter)

I would have to find something to do if I stopped working so may as well get paid for it
