I’ve never understood why someone would voluntarily retire but that’s just me. You retire, maybe travel for a time, see the world (if you choose) then what? I firmly believe the quality of life goes down in many ways.

Not everyone married a rich wife. Near the end of my career I was driving 103 miles to work getting up at 3:30AM.  Hell yes I'm glad to be retired. Work was never my hobby or entertainment. Between working two days a week now, watching the grand daughter and working out my days are filled. We never know how many days we have left. Unless your job is your entertainment, retire and enjoy your life. I have my health issues and so do you. My choice is to retire.

As I said…maybe it’s just me. But you keep right on believing I have a rich wife. She’ll be pleased to know she’s “rich”

Sorry, didn't know your wealth was from you. Thought the wife was financing your endeavors from reading the posts here.

Wealth? I’ve had businesses most of my adult life. I’m 61. I’ve always said even if I was a billionaire I wouldn’t retire. To ME, it didn’t make sense. I don’t think I know any successful entrepreneurs that truly retire.

working because you have to and working because you want to are two totally different things

But are you retired?

Warren Buffett still works but doesn't have to.

He doesn't say he's "retired".

I understand the concept.

Some people just need something to do.

Nothing wrong with it.

But are you "retired" if you still work?

Yes, you can take a pension from a previous job but if you still work somewhere are you really retired?

Your job is also something you love to do.  That will generally help keeping the desire to do it going.

I retired and I worked very part time. I make about 20K with my part time job that comes in handy for stuff like car repairs, appliances breaking and vacation.  I don't touch that money and I let it accumulate to use as needed.  In two years I will have my house paid off and in NJ at 65 you can freeze the outrageous house taxes from increasing. My retirement pension is healthy.

So you need to work.

You are not retired yet.

No problem.

I work now, my wife works part time a couple days in a gym on the counter, she is only doing it to help out, she doesnt need the money

I will only be working another 2 years tops, at 60 I can take my pension and leave

The job I do I could also do freelance for the company at a day rate if they wanted me.

I could make a few quid PT at the gym and could be very selective in who I worked with, (no zero willpowered bone idle fuckers who want a rep counter)

I would have to find something to do if I stopped working so may as well get paid for it

So you need to work.

You are not retired.

No problem.

You will give up being able to say you are retired for Vince.

Police often exit after 20 years (in their 40s) when they get their pension but still keep working because they need the money.

They are not retired.

I could stop work tomorrow if I wanted to, my job is quite enjoyable at times and Im not stuck there because financially we cant manage

The job is easy enough, not long hours, I am essentially my own boss and I get left alone, why give up a well paid job thats a breeze?

You can also keep working until you're 75 being a Walmart greeter.

You could retire but you are not yet retired because you want the pension so you NEED to work.

You're not doing anything wrong.

Report back when you actually retire.

You must need it or you wouldn't hang in there.

You could reduce your future lifestyle without the pension but you choose not to.

You NEED to work to get the pension.

Regardless, you are not yet retired are you?

Why does not being retired upset you?

It's great to get a pension.

It doesnt upset me, I class myself as semi retired anyway, my job isnt a chore.

Most people hate their jobs, if that were me I would quit and get another

No idea why people go through life doing something every day they hate

I've never worked a job that i truly loved and owning my own business was a nightmare.

I will hopefully retire around 55 with enough passive income to travel pretty much non-stop.

I absolutely hate working for other people, but it's the easiest way to make a decent living without risk.

When i had my own business, it was non-stop stress and anxiety.

What is your business? I know you owned a gym form awhile but you said the lease was lost I believe.

Didn’t you say in retirement you’re taking home 100k a year? Does that include your part time job? How much were you making during your career?
