Solid advice!!

Thanks, brother!   Oddly enough I just gave similar advice to a high school kid this past weekend as a group of them were talking about "boomers" stealing "their future" and how one of them just wanted to "kick a boomer's ass"...Sheesh.

The young man was kind enough to listen to me and when I finished he said he felt better about "his chances" and declined to kick my ass.  I have a sense of humor and knew he was just spouting nonsense.

Well over 50 years ago when I signed up for my Social Security Card there were adults there telling all of us not to expect to ever collect anything if we even made it to retirement age.

They were wrong.   I cannot see the future and neither could those folks.  Do your best to prepare for your future by doing your best in the here and now.  Vote Conservative and always think about what is being said to you by your elected officials and what they actually do.  Talk with your friends and neighbors.  Work hard not woke hard.

None of us can add a single moment to our life by worrying about it but if all we do is fret over things beyond our control then we can lose so many, many moments that could add to our lives.

Excellent advice!  YOU control your life, or at least YOU affect it far far more than anyone else.  You make the choices, you choose the path.  Do not listen to the fools and weaklings, this is what bodybuilding and life is about.  Refuse to be small!

For all the many, many benefits I got out of the gym and being bitten by the iron bug, the benefits of learning that my own efforts were the determining factor in my life far surpassed anything I gained muscle/strengthwise.

Cops in NJ retire 25-30 years. Most departments require a college degree and work experience today so the 20 year old rookie is rarity. The only departments today that still have a 20 year retirement in our area is NYC, Federal police jobs like FBI and Port Authority. Robbinsville by you just upped their retirement to 30 years.

I think you are right. 20 years is not as common. I saw my department go from 20 years to 23 years. But realistically, the great majority of officers were staying well past 20 years anyway so it didn't change much. I did just under 24. I would likely have done that regardless of whether it was 20 or 23.

I think when to retire is unique to each person as mentioned. I worked with a Lieutenant that at the time was 62 years old, and was battling cancer. He had 40 years on the department and would get a huge pay raise if he retired. But his whole life was wrapped up in his work. It was his identity. And for him, that was the right call. I liked my job when I retired. But I never thought I would continue to work past the point I could afford not to. Just not my thing. Had another co worker hit the Lotto for $51 million after taxes and still continued to work. Made no sense to me but it doesn't have to.

I always saw work as a temporary inconvenience. Retirement was the goal from day 1. I would have retired at 29 if I could have made it.

If you're self-employed, work out of your house or wherever a laptop can travel, do something that you love, would do it as much as possible anyway even if you weren't paid, an occupation you've always dreamed of doing, that requires skills that separate you from others, that you get lost in, something you're so into that you often get to 3:00 in the afternoon and realized you haven't eaten breakfast yet because you were so into a project, something that defines you, something that only your family takes precedence over.... then retirement isn't even in the picture.

That's what bodybuilding was supposed to represent in my life. :)

My goal was always to create income by putting money to work.

First you work for your money, then your money works for you.

Otherwise you never get off the hamster wheel.

Social security is an annuity...not a ponzi scheme...

If you receive it, I will never be able to convince you that it's bad.

But it requires at least as much revenue as it dispenses in order not to collapse, plus administrative costs. And that assumes it's run properly and not simply plundered at will to fund useless nonsense, which tax revenue invariably is.

Not to mention the moral hazard of enabling profligate living, in the knowledge that someone else's money will be made available. Or that greater tax burdens disincentivise workers. Or the usual socialist assumption that we're all in it together and the department of central planning should be in charge.

In summation, FDR was a putz and his New Deal agenda was yet another which just so happened to massively increase government size and power, and decrease individual choice and personal responsibility., which is how we have arrived at our current predicament.

It’s interesting because in the US we are critical of how the government handles the poor/homeless issue for its citizens (many of which need mental health services) but then on the other hand we criticize the very system we have to help our elderly stay afloat….. sometimes you can’t win.

People who keep working at a day job when they don't have to are sad.  Nothing in their outside lives, probably no friends either.  I have a million things I could do and like to do other than be a slave to the man.

The reason you're overrun with flakes, loonies, and addicts is precisely because of the system which subsidizes them and their creation.

It's a lot easier to deal with working and work related stress if you know you don't actually need the job and can quit any time.

Suddenly you feel like you're made out of Teflon. You can call out assholes and asshole behaviour at work, help make your work friends jobs easier and then go home and chill without stressing about the next day.

So yeah working when you can afford retirement can be far more enjoyable experience.

When will these boomers just go away. I swear, I’ve waited two decades for them to leave my places of work, and I’m finally at a place in which I guess there are five full-time boomers. A few “retired” but still work part time or have their fingers in something.

I yearned for a day in which there were no boomers present in meetings. Sometimes I look around the room and feel such content from there being only Gen X’ers and Millenials present.

The eternal boomer.

They're not getting their own money back. That money is gone. It was given to bankers and bomb makers.

I'm sure they like to pretend that their grandchildren aren't footing the bill, but they are. I just want to hear them say it. "I bought in to a corrupt socialist ponzi scheme which the ass is destined to fall right out of, and I'm content to have my grandkids be stuck holding the bag."

If you live and work in the usa most don’t have a choice whether they pay into SS. So while they are getting more than they paid in, they have no choice, so no one owes you a thank you or an acknowledgement

Just take care of yourself and don't worry about some 62 year old.

Someday you will be 62.

Save and invest wisely for your future.

Thank you. I’m working on it.

I know this take on boomers is not normal and might be due to coincidental unpleasant experiences with them.

From my personal experience most of us are quite normal.  We tend to be Conservative  and having lived through the bullshit of the '60s hippy shit has made us more so. We are for America and her Citizens First and fuck the turd worlder shitizens.

I have worked throughout my life for myself, my family and even my friends. I have dealt with enough weirdos over the decades to know that if I can avoid interacting with them I do just that.    I love my Nation and despise those that would spit upon the flag and all it stands for.

All the while kneeling during our Anthem.  Fuck the NFL.  Fuck woke.  Fuck Hollyweird.  Fuck islime. Fuck the lazy WETF Generations that refuse to work and think they are owed a good time.   Not every so-called "boomer" is like me but more are than are not.  I  knew more than a few of the aptly named "Greatest Generation" and believe me, they were my role model for work ethic and more.

YES YOU ARRRERRERRGH!!!!

Idk. I'd stop paying Shaniqua to breed before I'd stop paying grandpa but jesus who isn't getting a handout from the zookeeper these days.

I would have let all the banks fail in 08 but wtf do I know maybe it would have been civilizational collapse and 30 years of cannibalism.

LOL I am dumb you are right I was arguing…… what I meant was I understand your point but what are our options?

I dont think of Social security and the welfare program as the same even though the idea behind both is the same. Reform is needed but the government loves having this type of control.

All the friction is over scarce resource allocation. I say we depopulate through various means down to about 500 million.
