All the friction is over scarce resource allocation. I say we depopulate through various means down to about 500 million.
as long as we kill you first, you OK with that?

It's a lot easier to deal with working and work related stress if you know you don't actually need the job and can quit any time.

Suddenly you feel like you're made out of Teflon. You can call out assholes and asshole behaviour at work, help make your work friends jobs easier and then go home and chill without stressing about the next day.

So yeah working when you can afford retirement can be far more enjoyable experience.

You're gonna have to come up with something better than a vaccine and a 15 minute city to catch this one, squire.

When was the last time the population was 500 million and what were the technological advances that were made at that time?

How do you determine who is in the 500 million? Is it iq based or is there genetic testing done? After the population is established how is it maintained? Are people euthanized after a certain age?

You have many questions, friend.

Rest assured. It's all been worked out by the experts.

Pre oil era

Went from living in caves to coal power plants and electric cars.

You don’t get killed you simply don’t breed which creates mass depopulation over 200yrs.
You make young people all gay and trans so they can’t breed.
200yrs from now likely govt controlled and being a parent is a govt paid job.
Nobody is killed to maintain population

don't know why anybody would want to work forever, unless they are truly passionate about their work which i would bet 90% of people are not

time is your most valuable asset, no amount of money buys back time but when you work you are trading time for money, i'd rather be a broke 20 year old than a billionaire 70 year old

i think people that say they are bored in retirement and then come back to work are just too embarrassed to admit they need the money, you don't have hobbies to entertain you?  you don't have friends and family you would rather spend time with than the annoying and gossiping coworkers or asshole boss?  you would really rather greet strangers at wal mart than watch a movie or take a walk in the park?  do paperwork over going fishing?

it's different if you're the one in charge making a lot of money, and you're a workaholic that needs to stay busy and you consider everything else to be a waste of time, but most people are just trading time for money and don't want to admit they didn't make wise decisions with their money

Yep.

A few people really enjoy what they do and can get paid to do it.  You see lawyers for example who work until they drop because they like it or you have a guy like Warren Buffett who loves what he does.

For these people their work is an enjoyable hobby.

Most of us trade our time for money.

Why 500 million then?  You don’t need anywhere that many for labor to serve the 5 million

Lots of time there’s ego stroking involved. At work they are a boss and respected big deal. At home they’re just another old dude.

Their wives get all the excess SS and money anyway because they’re the ones that outlive them 10-20 years.

Interesting concept that you’re trading time for money, you shouldn’t be working for someone you should be running your own business.

For nearly all of human history people struggled working just to survive. The last couple of generations have allowed us to think differently about life than almost everyone who has ever lived.

Some people keep working to stay busy/shift their focus from their personal lives to something different because they don't like being left alone for long periods of time with just their thoughts.

Others are just unable to relax, hang out, have fun with hobbies and kill time. Stagnation like that is their idea of hell.

everybody wants to be in charge until they realize you often have to work at least twice as many hours and have 10 times the responsibility as a normal full time employee

not to mention it takes brains, balls, and leadership skills to start something from the ground up and turning it into a success

it's not for everybody to say the least

i guess so, an idle mind is the devils playground as they say

i think some people are drama queens, they need chaos or else they are bored
