Did bodybuilders in the 80s and 90s really eat baby food?
« on: October 31, 2023, 09:35:12 AM »
I remember reading about this in older bodybuilding books, and it looks like it’s still a circulating urban legend. Yet I’ve never seen or even heard about it mentioned when talking to other lifters in real life.

Baby food is expensive and not very tasty, unless you’re stealing it from the single mom you’re living with I don’t see why it would ever be an option?  Seems like a joke that got out of hand to the point where people believe it’s actually real, like this clown:

Wes, hazbin, et al: ever eaten baby food or known anyone that did??  Or is this just an urban legend

It`s very true.....most people that I knew used it pre-contest backstage for carbing up .....like sweet potatoes for babies, and applesauce.

No idea if it really worked or not.

Yes this is true

In my limited experience it started as just a convenient way to carb-load like people say, but then for a few of the bigger guys it also got connected to their insulin usage.  I have no idea why as I never asked...

And if you're that young you might not know that Momo Benaziza basically tried to survive and hold a peak for the '90s GP tours on pureed apples and little else - again, not sure of the logic

I did, but I can't recall eating the small jars of fruit or sweet potatoes, only the Gerber cereal stuff that came in a box and you mixed with water (and Equal).  It was seen as a very easily digestible carb.

I did. Rory had it in my diet for every show I did way back when.

And early 2000s as well. Along the same lines as cream of wheat. No stomach issues, easy to digest.

Also tuna was big. Eat cans of tuna a day. Craig Titus had a good tuna combo which was a baked potatoe, tuna, and salsa. Tuna was different back then. Today it’s a weird color and very salty tasting.

What I heard from some of the old timers back than was that baby formula was a choice for some of them. Powdered , liquid concentrate or ready to drink. Nasty tasting stuff I had been told.  Baby food jars were also included they said. Some baby formula had a soy milk base.

Even liver powder mixed in water was gagged down by a few back in those days. One extreme to another, I guess.

MetRX and Myoplex Plus ended the need for dieting. ;D
