If this were in the US I'd be pissed if people were blocking my road to work but I wouldn't shoot them. I don't think it is unreasonable to move barricades while brandishing a gun so you can get on your way past an illegal protest. It isn't something I'd do personally. But I could see how someone would want to show they can protect themselves and they mean to make their way through the mess.

Now, if this is in Panama I have no idea what the norms are there. And if he's a foreigner shooting a local citizen that's going to go really badly for him.

Sure.  My post was in response to Rob’s claim that all protestors should be shot, which is about as un-American of a sentiment as there is.  Perhaps he would feel more comfortable in a place like Saudi Arabia or North Korea, where protestors ARE shot.

The trigger for the protests was the sweetheart lease being renewed for the copper mine. But the opposition to it was not driven by environmental issues. It was over the corruption inherent to the renewal of that lease.

Keep in mind this video takes place in Panama. So the people in it, both protestor and motorist, are Panamanians.

The right to protest is guaranteed by the US constitution.  In fact, our Founding Fathers considered the right to free speech, assembly, and redress of one’s grievances to be so important that they made it the first entry on the  Bill of Rights.  Protesting is about as American of an activity as there is.
