Yeah, haha. I feel like I verify my claims, so it's annoying when people still question things I've verified.
You did this to me too, Brian - you made it sound like I couldn't get a 325 bench. But right now, I'm on track for 375 in three weeks. I mean, I could see if you were hard on me for a max lift, but I've pressed 325 a dozen times or more, going back years. Not sure why you doubted me there. 375 will obviously be another matter, but I'm confident I will get it.
People are so full of shit. I respect Dave Palumbo for saying - why lie? This isn't 2004, before EVERYONE had a cellphone camera. Not like lying is ever cool, but I just feel like it would be impossible to get away with it these days.
I can handle people "rounding up" their claims a little bit. Like someone who is 5'11.5" saying he is six feet, or someone squatting two inches too high claiming it as their squat, or even if they benched 405 in 2018 and can only get 360 now claiming 405, knowing they can get back to it in a month if they wanted to. Stuff like that.
I questioned your 225 for 31-32 reps, because we had a contest in town for the region, and the top guy got 224x30, and his max bench was 475.
But some people just make up preposterous stuff. Then on the flip side you have people claiming Palumbo is 5'6".
Like he said - he was 5'10.5" in 1996, and has maybe lost an inch since then. No big deal.
Sometimes a pro may weigh 270, but is 255 at another time, but just tells people the 270 weight. Not everyone checks every day.
I try to make make realistic predictions if I can. And even if you can bench 405, you could be having a bad day and only get 385 some days. No big deal.
My experience with pros is that most tell the truth about their
heights, but may exaggerate their
weights.
Not sure why some bodybuilders get so mad though...
