These pieces were positively identified to having come from a 777 airliner, and the Flight 370 is the only to have been lost over any ocean. That the pieces washed ashore in an island chain that is in the southern hemisphere indicates Flight 370 did crash into the southern Indian ocean. Ocean currents do not cross the equator.
