The Fall of Tony Ferguson [UFC Fighter].

This is sad to watch...

Tony Ferguson is also still very good. Definitively at the world level still, and still going the distance in fights. But this is depressing to watch - both now seeing him collect seven losses in a row, and the fact that he is adding more and more brain damage as time goes on. 

It's just sad to see this.

It's hard for fighters to know when to retire, I guess...but IMO, around a 3-loss streak is when fighters should be seriously considering hanging up their gloves.

It's sort of like how Nasser El Sonbaty was still at the world level for years after his peak [1997, when he placed 2nd to Dorian Yates at the Mr. Olympia contest]. Arguably, Nasser's decline actually started in 1999, but he was still good enough to continue on.

Tony is still a world level fighter...but at seven losses in a row, he should consider hanging up his gloves.

Did any Getbiggers catch UFC 296, and Tony's fight against Paddy Pimblett?

Paddy Pimblett is VERY strong...but he gets too heavy in the off-season, which is probably hurting his stamina.

Chuck Liddell was 1-6 in his last seven fights. His last UFC fight against Rich Franklin was hard to watch. 

Six losses to tarnish his record...and doing nothing but adding to his CTE.

I remember when Tony thought that there were hidden cameras in his house recording him. He ripped apart the walls looking for them, and his wife called the cops. Apparently Tony also believed that his son was Jesus.

Mayhem Miller comes to mind as a pretty bad downfall. He was likable on Bully Beatdown and looked like me might make that transition from fighter to actor. Then went totally off the rails.

Ferguson should have fought Kabib so that Kabib could have ended the hype years ago. I think Ferg would have been in a much better place now if he had been destroyed earlier. I think he still thinks that he could have beaten Kabib.

Never thought Tony was all that good. His style was always sloppy, a bit of a mess really. What I think he had was a good run in a division that didn't have the quality of talent that it has now. He once had good stamina, but even that looks like shit now (could be his age).

Truth be told, it almost felt as if something was broken when he fought Justin Gaethje. I saw similar after Robert Whittaker fought Yoel Romero, in that Romero hit so damn hard that Robert was never quite the same after their fights.

At this point, Tony should definitely retire. He looks almost as bad as Nick Diaz did in his last fights.

Back in the day he had, his Conditioning/Stamina (which you noticed is gone now), his Durability/Chin (which is also gone now), and his Unorthodox and Unpredictable Style (which he is too slow to use now, and he lacks foundation).

His sloppy unpredictable moves worked before when he was younger due to his physical qualities, but now that they are gone, it won't work anymore.

Too old and worn now, without his qualities he had before.

Also, there have always been questions about Tony's mental health. Rumor has it that he has a slew of issues, most of which are not readily published on the internet. I've read suggestions (possibly by him) of Autism and ADHD, but I wouldn't be surprised if Tony suffers from some type of psychotic disorder. His quirks and oddities have always kept us guessing. Whether or not that has played into his sharp decline is anyone's guess. He could just very well be out of his prime with age having caught up to him.

Honorable mention goes to the fact that Tony has always reminded me of a possibly retarded cousin that the great "Paco" from Bloodsport would have had back in the USA:

Good points being made about Tony. I pretty much agree with all.Tony was one tough sonofabitch back in his prime.Who was it got him in an arm bar and had it locked in hard and it looked like Tony’s shoulder was about to dislocate I was yelling TAP TONY TAP! He never did and somehow got out of it. I guess you only have so many of these in you and then you have to pay the price.

The majority of fighters fight past their prime. Their mind still have the warrior spirit but the body can't deliver.  Getting hit in the head damages a fighter neurologically along with age. They become slower and less reactive. It seems they fight until it's crystal clear to them they are not the same fighter. Nothing is sadder than watching a legend get beat up by someone who just not in their league if the legend was in their prime. 

We saw this with Ali, Norton, Frazier, Chuck Liddell and many others. The body just can't take that amount of punishment and be unscathed. I admired Rocky Marciano for saying I've done enough, I'm retired.  It's a rare thing in the fight world.

Dana basically said at the post fight press conference Tony should retire.

I doubt he fights again in the UFC. Not sure, how many fights he has left on his contract.

also getting David Goggins to do 5 mile lunges everyday was just pointless. Tony’s issue was never cardio..  I get trying to go viral
