Topic is boxers, check the thread title. Not strikers. But as proven over and over again boxers are poor fighters overall.

Unlike bodybuilders haha

I think that Roy Jones Jr. at his absolute best beats any fighter in history under 200 pounds.  I know what my eyes see.

I think so too.

Meldrick Taylor was Roy Jones Jr before Roy was.  And Julio Caesar Chavez beat him up by breaking him down in the body.

sparred 4 times with my polish coach, maybe landed 2 or 3 jabs inj total :D :D :D

after the first one i took a beating and either had cracked or brusied ribs and we had  long spar rounds like 5+ minutes at the end of the firsr one he said to me "you are brave"

he sparred with a polish heavyweight pro and said the pro never landed a clean shot on him

my man che has the pic of our post spar result, which my coach posted on his fagbook account :D :D :D

Meldrick Taylor was Roy Jones Jr before Roy was.  And Julio Caesar Chavez beat him up by breaking him down in the body.

Meldrick was as fast as Jones in terms of handspeed but his style was totally different, he didn't have Jones power- not even 50% of Jones power, and prime Jones had better reflexes. Meldrick could take a better punch and had twice the heart.

Yes, I believe his speed was on par with Meldrick's.  Roy had one hitter quitter power to go with it.  Unbelievable reflexes and stamina for days.  If Roy never dropped back down to 175 but instead fought Holyfield and Tyson, his legacy, unfortunately would be much more favorable.

Different kinds of speed. Meldricks handspeed was incredible but he was landing pitty-pat punches, srill harder puncher than say Sweat Pea Whittaker but they were 'arm punches'

Jones speed was in his reflexes. Jones could be way outside and leap in, close the distance, and land a knockout punch faster than anyone else.

In terms of combination punching there aren't many, if any, that were faster than Taylor. A young Sugar Ray Leonard was probably just as fast.

Anyone else watching Beterbiev vs. Smith? Its about to start. Watched 3 undercard fights. All pretty good fights. There's a good, electric, atmosphere,  its in Quebec.

Should be good. Beterbiev is a beast but I think he's a tad over-rated.  He should win tonight though. Smith was trounced by Canelo at super middle weight just 3 fights ago but anything can happen. Smith seems focused and Beterbiev is 39 years old.

I'm a big fan of Beterbiev. Even more so after tonight.  Canelo outbox ed Smith Beterbiev most likely retired him. If he and Bivol fight this summer I'm rolling with Beterbiev solidly. Best jab in the game today. In all my years I've never seen such short punches do so much damage. You're correct too about the undercarriage. Outstanding fights.

Prior to tonight I thought Bivol was an easy pick over Beterbiev. I'm not so sure now.

I like Beterbiev alot too but I do think he's a little overrated.  He gets hit a little too easily and Ive seen him wobbled a couple of times. I watched his full fights with Enrico Knolling (sp?) And Govodzvk. In those fights there were a few stretches where he was outboxed. Though he ended up bludgeoning both in the end. he's susch a hard puncher. Its wild because they're not punches with a lot of speed or leverage, he just really physically strong, almost like a light heavyweight Foreman.  His strength is rare. Agree with you about his jab. He's also devout Muslim so he lives clean between fights.

I think Bivol is fresher. More disciplined- not in terms of training but in terms of sticking to a game plan, making zero mistakes. He really boxes beautifully.

It's a true Boxer/puncher match up and it's close to a 50/50 fight.

I'm going with Beterbiev as I just don't think Bivol can keep him off him.  Also, Beterbiev looks to have benefited from whatever surgeries he was out with.  I believe the last couple years he was fighting through injuries.  I like last night how he got off to a quick start too.  Don't get me wrong, Bivol is a p4p top 5ish guy.  It is a great match up and cannot wait for it to happen.

Me. I had a few amateur fights in my teens.  Haven't sparred in a long time but still do a few rounds on heavy bag, speed bag and jump rope. Now I teach my kids too.

I'm convinced if you've repeatedly felt the physical pressure of another person trying to punch you and attack you, you tend to deal with all forms of conflict better later on in life.

Beterbiev is a tank.

Reminds me of Dorian, crushing all his opponents on stage.

James "Lights Out" Toney.  In this prime, the truest, most impressive fighter of all time.  Never afraid of a war, while at the same time making guys miss out of the true Philly Shell.  The type of dude that would call your baby ugly pre-fight, beat your ass, and then keep mean mugging you after the fight was over.  A warrior that never overcame the trauma he faced as a youngster.
