Barbell shoulder presses were always a waste of time for me. My shoulders always reacted to raises and upright row much better.

I still do them now but with a band only. I get a better pump for some reason.

Stiff legs are one of vital exercises IMO. Men don't do them much, but the gym thots in yoga pants still do.

Machine rows > barbell rows for hypertrophy IMO. You can focus on the squeeze instead of heaving the weight.

Stilff legged deadlifts and behind the neck presses. I never seen anyone doing these any more (besides me). I see them doing Romanian deadlifts and military presses. I've seen this in several gyms the past few years. Didn't expect the non bodybuilders to do these but suprised none of the bodybuilders that I've talked to do them. They say RDL's are better for hamstrings than stiffs. I tell them that behind neck presses are better for width and they say military's are better and that my exercises are outdated. I don't know. I've tried them but didn't think they worked as well but maybe I'm wrong.

Gyms I use I seldom see anyone doing
Front squats
DB rows
T bar row
Press behind neck
Deadlifts - let alone stiff leg deadlifts

I do all of them.

It can be very hard to tell whether someone is inteding to do stiff legs, straight leg, Romanian or regular deads. Jordan Peters is constantly explaining to his subscribers what variation he's doing in his vids.

like who ???

louies boys sometimes trained at my gym back in the 90s and i never saw any of them do that

i did see 2 of them call black fellas the N word and those fellas didnt do shit bout it

There's this Jewish writer who is constantly blasting Louie, about his and their racism. Says he's so glad Louie died, he was a piece of shit.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C2NIVQihZsQ/?igsh=MjR2a2pudmswYXRl

I didn't know this was an issue until I saw Jamie's posts. And yeah, this guy takes offence because he is Jewish, otherwise he admires "strong and tough men."

This guy is a very good writer imo but his leftist talking points are a bit much.

he is now my 2024 deadpool choice.

He says he is confident he will emerge unscathed from his bodybuilding, "I can handle one more prep." We'll see. So far he has survived nightmare level dosing, up to 6 grams according to him. I like the guy, love to see his clips. Earlier he said his GF asked him "are you about to die?"and then he went obsessively on a weightloss/muscle loss regimen. But he couldn't stay away.

All free weight exercises are disappearing because gyms are so full of machines.

Quoted for truth. Never seen so many machines. Is sitting in all these machines healthy compared to standing with a barbell or dumbbells?

I just about always include stiff deads off a block. The new way is to kept the back stiff but I round a little and never had a problem.

Press behind the neck was something I did for about 40 years. When my shoulders were injured I drifted away from them. I use standing military and standing dumbbell presses now. I think the reason why the press behind the neck bothers my shoulders is because of a lack of flexibility. I want to get back to doing them. I use to push every rep off my traps. Now I see guys stopping half way down their head.

I think they have gotten a bad rap. People don't damage their shoulders from them but damage them with tears because of a lack of flexibility. The bench is notorious for giving guys tight shoulders prone to tears like rotator ones and labrum. If you can hold the bar on your back as in the high bar squat positions to start each rep you should have no problem using them.

Behind the neck presses are "better for width".

LOL.

You laugh, but that statement is the essence of Getbig.

Some people are still grappling emotionally with what exercises are best. People are still mentally grappling with what rep ranges are best. People are still discussing how many sets per workout is best. Is heavy duty a scam or not (then make several threads bashing HIT). People still trying to come to terms with the 1980 Mr Olympia. People who still feel the need to remind us that Mike Mentzer used meth 40 years ago (We know. We get it. We knew this decades ago)

If they don’t fucking understand what works best for them by now. They will never understand.

They will post the same question next month. And then again a few months after that.

It doesn’t take 30 years of training to “finally discover” what’s better, barbell front presses or behind neck presses.

He should be exercising his heart muscle way more than he is powerlifting.

For awhile every exercise variation was called Bulgarian. Now I see it's Romanian.  Do they really do these exercises in Romania?

Sometimes too much range of motion can cause problems.

With upright rows, if you take a shoulder width grip and raise the bar just to the point where you would flip your wrists, if you were cleaning it, you can get some side delt and trap development.

I've tried them but didn't think they worked as well but maybe I'm wrong.

I do behind the neck presses quite regular. Same as behind the neck pull downs. I know many say against it, but I have insane strength behind the neck vs in front. Not sure why. Theres probably some physio expert here that knows the mechanics. Another exercise I love that I hardly see anyone doing anymore is upright rows. People do shrugs yet I've never bothered with them. Lats wise, that one exercise behind the neck pull is what really poked them out. Whether it's because I had more strength on the exercise or whether genetically they were bound to no matter what I tried, I don't know but it seems around the time I really started doing that exercise.

Yep I do behind neck presses behind neck pulldowns still leg deadlifts ( best ham builder there is) And either my nautilus pullover or dumbbell pullover. Honestly I prefer the dumbbell pullover.  I have really NEVER did front press ( front delts get enough from chest work)  and never do front pulldowns ( that seems to be harder on shoulders than behind. I use  a leaning forward style when doing them. It kind of mimicks nautilus behind neck pulldowns and I feel much more in lats.. For me anyways

I forgot about front squats!  Great exercise. Put a board under heel. It is uncomfortable but go lighter and look up and rep out.  What about REAL t-bar rows? Not these chest supported types but real ones? I love those.  Just don't get carried away with poundage.   And of course dips!!!   So many great old school exercises but gyms want modern machines because that is what "sells"  But us hardcore guys know the truth.
