Weeks ago - in december - he went totally missing for 20 consecutive days. It makes sense now - the Kremlin was floating a trial balloon about his death.
For the better part of 2021-2022, the Russian political swamp was in complete turmoil. Many wondered whether it was time to jump ships and swear allegiance to a stronger, meaner sub-faction. Guess the State has now made abundantly clear as to whom managed to prevail. It's a common thing in Soviet politics.
To be frank, the only leader who truly managed to balance internal rivalries out was Comrade Brezhnev. Under his leadership, all political and military figures kept getting a proportional share of the proverbial "corruption-iced" cake, based on their hierarchical rank within the Soviet criminal/bureaucratic administration. There was just no point in opposing him. Stalin was on a whole other level though.
