The one thing I find indefensible, is the Biden admin allowing 20+ million folks to flow into the country freely and illegally.
Now that we know it was easy to stop, what is your honest opinion of why that was permitted?
You find this indefensible because it is not correct. According to the CMS (Center for Migration Studies), the correct estimate is that there were approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. when Trump took office in 2025.
According to the DHS, the number of southern border encounters has greatly decreased over the past year (July 2024 to July 2025). Encounters do not equate to illegal border crossings. Illegal immigrants are the folks who are successful in crossing the border illegally. Illegal immigration has not stopped completely.
Ever since the 1790 naturalization act, immigration policies and laws have constantly changed and adapted to various immigration circumstances. Therefore, the ebb and flow of both legal and illegal immigrants is always in flux. Sometimes our doors have been open to immigrants and at other times almost completely closed. This is one reason why less strict immigration policies were in place during the Biden administration which allowed for an increase in numbers of both legal and illegal immigrants.
Recently Trump acknowledged the negative effect his immigration policies have had on the farming and hotel industries and has floated some ideas for temporary immigration status that would allow non-citizens to return to those jobs. As food prices continue to climb which affects everyone, I expect more pressure will be put on the Trump administration to remedy this.
There are no simple solutions for complex situations.
