I would not say he's not trustworthy, what he did took guts.  I don't think ideally he wants to side with the Republican party, but the left forced his hand. He genuinely believes what he says, and the way he described the current democratic party is spot on.

Imagine, if you will, a Kennedy endorsing Trump in exchange for favors which will likely never materialize. Robert F. Wisely, VP Harris refused to offer him the position he wanted in exchange for his support. Truth be told, she probably did not want his endorsement in the first place because it most likely would have hurt her campaign.
