I would never say the US is without serious problems. You say the US media sugar-coats. When I watch my news (especially the local news), I see nothing but problems. I am sure there are plenty of people in Russia living perfectly comfortable lives in perfectly comfortable towns and countryside. But I have no doubt whatsoever about the big picture. There is very little freedom there. The economy is top down communism. People who protest too much get killed. NO ONE WANTS INTO Russia, and lots of people want to leave.

Vacationed in Australia for almost 3 weeks Dec-Jan. Been to Mexico and Canada quite a bit when I was younger but thats it. Wife on the other hand traveled and competed all over the world, so outside of what I mentioned she's my go to. Both my boys vacation and travel for business in other countries, 18 was the last count.

 I try to keep up with the politics of other countries (like Russia, Ukraine, UK, most of Europe and the middle east). My cousin in law is Delegate and a voting member of the RNC and has been a DC insider for more than 20 years. He's my go to for a lot of my political information. Just because Lurker travels doesn't mean he knows the political climate. I would visit Russia but never live there, I wouldn't step foot in China. Just because you've been to a country doesn't mean you’re  an authority.
