Ronnie's back was not even close to the widest ever.

Cutler has always been wider than Coleman.

Not from the pictures I have seen from 04 (Ronnie's widest).

Jay naturally has much wider clavicles, but also gives him a refriderator look.

Part of what made 2003 so freaky was that Ronnie was 285lbs on his smallish frame (compared to fux, dillet, baker, etc.)

Jay is pretty wide also, but lacks the thickness that Ronnie has. Jay's back up to now is still lacking the thickness and detail.

i really think that yates stands alone for the rear lat spread.

its tough for the BDB, but lat spread alone, yates takes it.

They are probably tied in their "backs" in the rear latspread, but Ronnie has bigger arms, delts, bigger and shredded hams and glutes from the rear. The only thing left is calves, which yates wins. I think over all from top to bottom Ronnie out muscles yates in more areas than yates out muscles Ronnie. Not to mention Ronnie kills him in the hams and glutes area big time. So if we say from the rear latspread:

Back: Tie
Arms: Ronnie
Hams: Ronnie
Glutes: Ronnie
Calves: yates
Rear Delts: Ronnie

Ronnie is more complete from the back top to bottom.

Let's here what everyone else has to say.

Ronnie has a much better taper in the rear lat spread than dorian, thanks to his tiny (in comparison to dorian's) waist.

I mean look at this:

in addition, Dorian displays loose rolls of fat and skin at the base of the lower back in the pose, while Ronnie displays striations from his christmas tree.

in width they are close, but ronnie wins on everything else and all fine details except for calves, which he looses by a country mile.

although I am not a big fan of ronnie 2003, even Pubic has to admit that no one in the history of bodybuilding has had a freakier rear lat spread that that..

but in the rear lat spread, conditioning is not as important. and besides, his glutes and hams still blew dorian's out of the water..

I mean, look at dorian's rear lat spread: he had more rolls (of loose skin and fat) than a chinese bakery and he still had an impressive rear lat spread.

Ronnie was no where near more conditioned than Yates in the rear lat spread in his 2003 form.

Seriously, just look at Yates' last spread in that last picture, it's practically perfect.

But Coleman has far to many flaws in the rear lat compared to Dorian for that to even matter.

Plus, the extreme flare and low insertion of Yates' lats make his wider waist less significant.

You all talk about taper, but I doubt that would decide a contest.

How do you explain Arnold? He had a wider waist than Dorian, yet still beat the man with the best taper of all-times, Sergio.

yates lats have extremely low insertion points and make up for someone with a tiny waist.

low lats are very rare.

one of the things that was written about from 2002, that Gunter's lats inserted lower than ronnie's and looked more impressive.

Front lat spread has to go to Yates....Ronnie as whole just didn't look very good in this pose despite the great individual parts.

Seriously, just look at Yates' last spread in that last picture, it's practically perfect.

Yes, the spread is almost perfect, but it is judged from top to bottom with Ronnie having the same width and a thicker 03 back. Having bigger/shredded hams, glutes. Bigger arms and delts also helps Ronnie wins the pose. Let's face it. In the time of yates and Ronnie, size is the main game and would win it all. Plus with Ronnie's detail for a 300 pound man is just too much to handle.
