???

Well this is a comparison of the two in the context of who is the best bodybuilder. That necessarily involves comparing each at their respective peaks/primes. For Dorian, it has been suggested that this was 1995, or 1993. For Coleman, it has been suggested that this is 1999, 2003, or possibly the 2001 Arnold Classic. Ronnie Coleman didn't reach his prime till long after Dorian retired.

Using your argument, we would be forced to say that Franco Columbu is the best bodybuilder ever. Franco beat Frank Zane, who beat Chris Dickerson, who beat Samir Bannout, who beat Lee Haney, who beat Dorian, who beat Ronnie, who of course beat Jay.

they competed against each other when Ronnie was so infantile he placed 9th through dead last at the Olympia contests.

then, he peaked, and took physiques to another level.

just compare these gallaries, and you will clearly see the difference:

http://www.ironman-israel.com/gallery/coleman.htm

http://www.ironman-israel.com/gallery/yates.htm

Ronnie had a quality to his physique that dorian lacked except in the abs and lower back..

once Ronnie's body filled out and he got razor sharp, it was game over.

I can't help but be underwhelmed by most pics of Yates. I know technically he is great, like his lower back and calves which are weaknesses for many competitors, but in this day and age where sheer bulk is not special anymore his flat muscle bellies do not match Ronnie's infinitely superior muscle separations and fullness. In my opinion Ronnie has aesthetic seriously on his side too in 98/99.

Just observe the pics, not being rude, it's simply no contest by today's standards.

I was just asking if they competed in direct competition and who won

:rolls eyes:

They competed against each other eight times and Ronnie lost all eight times

1992 Mr Olympia - Dorian 1st - Ronnie - 16th
1994 Mr Olympia - Dorian 1st - Ronnie - 15th
1995 Mr Olympia - Dorian 1st - Ronnie - 11th
1996 Mr Olympia - Dorian 1st - Ronnie - 6th
1996 GP of England - Dorian 1st - Ronnie - 5th
1996 GP of Germany - Dorian 1st - Ronnie - 5th
1996 GP of Spain - Dorian 1st - Ronnie - 5th
1997 Mr Olympia - Dorian 1st - Ronnie 9th

Now you can say well Ronnie wasn't in his prime when Dorian beat him and I can say Dorian wasn't in his either , he had a torn bicep and quad from, 1995 on , 1997 he had a torn bicep , quad and triceps to boot .

And I raised this point before Dorian faced Haney and he wasn't his best and still beat Haney in the muscularity round despite being 239 pounds to Haney's 250 pounds , and the best Ronnie could manage was a distant 5th on the Euro-tour

exactly. A quck scan through those galleries will quickly show you that once he peaked, Ronnie's fantastic muscle shape, detail and vascularity put him in a class far above dorian, even at his best.

dorian's granite look is not enough to overcome the underwelming qualities (in comparison to Ronnie) of most of his body.

calves and lower back are not enough.

there's no getting around it..

Its no contest , the worlds best back VS Shawns lol what back? he lacks thickness , density , and width , his clavicles are narrow and his arms & delts dominate the pose , overall he is NO where near Yates.

yes but dorian sure as hell did not have the worlds best back during his post tear years.

the only year his back was even in contention for that honour was 93.

every year before (arms too small -ruined the look of the back) and after (post tear, nuff said) his back was not up to the standard he set in 93.

Post tear dorian was never ever the same.

Dorian HAD the world's best back, at least until Ronnie hit his peak (according to Dorian's friend Peter McGough no less).

Post tear best back? no way:

I love it! for 500 pages you guys are preaching the words of Peter McGough as if he is the gospel on anything relating to dorian or ronnie.

then, you find out he says Ronnie had the greatest back in bodybuilding history.

Now his opinion doesn't mean shit ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

You are so pathetic.

Ronnie Coleman

DESCRIBE DORIAN YATES: A close friend. Dorian is very intelligent, a great Mr. Olympia. He had the best side-chest pose and the thickest freakiest back I have ever seen.

samir Bannout who had one of the best backs mind you on Cutler 2001

Jay Cutler blows the other bodybuilders away with the crisp detail of his muscularity from top to bottom. He has superior calves, hamstrings and glutes. His back is detailed and big, but it does not match up well against Ronnie, who has the second-best back in the history of bodybuilding behind the great Dorian Yates

Ronnie has the second best back behind the great Dorian Yates

No his opinion still carries a lot of weight but this is one I disagree with , I'm NOT bound by his every opinion  and the reverse NOW applies to you , you dismissed all of his quotes and now your on his balls with this one , so you're predictable , hypocritical !!

Here is another quote from Peter McGough

Flex magazine August 1997

Peter McGough on the famous Kevin Horton precontest black & whites of Dorian at 269lbs

I was present when those shots were taken and it was the most stunning unveiling of a physique these peepers had seen since my intial view of SERGIO OLIVA at the 1971 NABBA Mr Universe. that day , Dorian's physique blew my - if not his own -socks off.

And to add to that he said Ronnie was the best physique thats he's ever seen in a contest ...............and the best he's ever seen out of a contest was Dorian Yates in the famous B&Ws at 269 pounds !!  ;)

like I've said before I'll put these pics up against anything you can come up with and Yates kills everyone.
