Outrageious tapers from huge muscle bellies to smallish joints is arguably the most defining factor in BB greatness. Oliva for example. the 2 best BBs of the last 25 years or so Wheeler and Coleman late 90s. Robinson, Fox, Nubret, Schwarzenegger, Padilla.

Gunter & Ferrigno couldn't compete with Schwarzenegger on this; their muscle volume relative to height and bone structure wasn't sufficient, aside from other factors.

The lack of dramatic contrast between muscle size and bones is something that Schwarzenegger mentioned in the 90s, referring the negative trajectory of BB in general and Yates indirectly.

Not only do the abs look awful, but the belly is sticking out a mile. I don't think the 2001 ASC was his best showing by a mile. I would pick 98 or 99 as his all time best. I don't know how Peter McCough can say it is the best physique he has ever seen onstage. Either Coleman looked better in real life that day or MCough needs glasses.

He had started developing a bit of a gut by then and he was
10 pounds lighter than 1999. These pics don't show his true condition though.
I'll post a few to give you a better idea. He was very ripped but not
very full which made him look a little smooth until he flexed.
When he flexed it was crazy looking though.

I honestly think that the fact he so dominated that
show had a psychological impact on those that saw it.
I think Titus and Kamali were both in the top 6 and
CC was pretty smooth for him. He probably dominated
that show more than any other besides 2003 and that's
why those shows stick in peoples minds more. In 1999
CC looked freakin incredible and although Flex had oil
in parts he had never attained that size he had in 99.

I will agree that Ronnie 2001 AC would look

Its not like I'm dumb enough to think dorian was average, but he really just doesn't come close to ronnie.  Ronnie is more aesthetic, more symmetrical, more striated and just plain bigger than dorian. Overall, Ronnie consistently has:

the better chest
the better arms
the better legs
the better back
the better shoulders
the better package


Dorian has displayed:
great calves
great lats
great dryness at some shows
great posing

The only cogent arguements made here by the dorianites is that dorian has better calves, better abs and his outter lats have more striations that ronnie. 1500 pages and thats all dorian can cling to.  That hardly makes him the better bodybuilder.
