Phone data indicated suspect had been by golf course for hours before rifle was spotted
Marlene Lenthang

A criminal complaint against Routh reveals more details about yesterday's apparent assassination attempt.

In addition to a witness account, Routh was confirmed to be the suspect using phone records that located him in “the vicinity of the area along the tree line” of the Trump International Golf Club from 1:59 a.m. until 1:31 p.m. on Sunday, the complaint said.

At 1:31 p.m., a Secret Service agent assigned to Trump’s security detail was walking the perimeter of Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach when the agent saw what appeared to be a rifle poking out of a tree line.

The agent fired their service weapon in the direction of the rifle and a witness saw a man, later identified as Routh, fleeing the area of the tree line, entering a Nissan sport utility vehicle and leaving at a high rate of speed.

In the area of the tree line where Routh fled, agents found a digital camera, two bags, a loaded SKS-style 7.62x39 caliber rifle with a scope, and a black plastic bag containing food. The serial number on the rifle “was obliterated and unreadable to the naked eye,” the complaint said.

The agent who wrote the complaint said that such rifles are not manufactured in Florida, and it’s likely the rifle had “traveled in interstate or foreign commerce.”

At 2:14 p.m. the Martin County Sheriff’s Office initiated a motor vehicle stop and Routh was detained. Officers said the license plate of the Nissan he was in was registered to a 2012 white Ford truck that has been reported stolen.

The witness who reported seeing Routh fleeing the area of Trump International was taken to the scene and identified Routh as the man seen earlier.

A review of law enforcement records found that on Dec. 20, 2002, Routh was convicted in Greensboro, North Carolina, of possession of a weapon of mass death and destruction, a class F felony. Records also showed that on March 3, 2010, Routh was convicted of multiple counts of possession of stolen goods.

Remember that clown Bennie Thompson who wanted to remove Secret Service protection from Trump? Interestingly enough he voted in favor of this act.

Congress passes bill to boost presidential candidate security after apparent attempt on Trump's life

The Senate unanimously passed legislation Tuesday to boost Secret Service protection for presidential candidates, sending the bill to the White House for President Joe Biden's signature.

The strong show of bipartisan support came days after the House passed the measure, known as the Enhanced Presidential Security Act, without any opposition in a 405-0 vote.

The bill would give former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris the same level of protection provided to Biden.

He's a hack, but I'm glad he did the right thing here.

They really are trying to murder that man.  Tucker Carlson called it months ago.

It might have been a party-line vote. I think Thompson and others like him still have the same mindset as when they wanted Trump's USSS protection removed. They just don't want to publicly acknowledge it and be blamed for anything after the repeated attempts against Trump.

Oh no doubt he and a lot of the left held their noses when they voted for this.

Multiple overseas trips.  Offering to pay people to fight for Ukraine.  A bounty on Trump.  Traveling from Hawaii to Florida for his attempted assassination.  Who was funding this assassin?

There are an increasing number of people who strongly believed everything Trump promised them, who voted for him in 2024. Some of these people are among those who have been recently abruptly, and perhaps unjustly fired. They are understandably angry at him. Plus, some folks see it as a personal betrayal. It would not surprise me to read about additional attempts to assassinate him.

The story you are responding to is from November 2024, two months before Trump took office.  No one had been fired.

It does not surprise me that he faces repeated attempts on his life and repeated calls for his murder by leftists, because leftists are disproportionately violent when it comes to politics.

My response was about the increased possibility of this happening due to current events, (firings for example). The date of that story lacks relevance.
Looking back, over the past year’s two assignation attempts against Trump:
At the time of the shooting, Ryan Wesley Routh was not a registered voter because he was a convicted felon. He claims to have supported Trump and later was a Trump critic. Previously, he registered as a Democrat and later was unaffiliated. He also lived in Hawaii, where party affiliation is not required for voter registration. Historically, he supported both Democrats and Republicans. Clearly this man's political leanings are all-over-the-place... and from what I have read he seems to be a wacko.

Twenty-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks was registered as a Republican. As best as I know, to date, no identified motive for the attempted assassination has been revealed. His profile suggests he had some mental issues according to folks who knew him.

Crazy people may lean left or right politically or not have any clear political ideology whatsoever.

There are multiple possibilities for extreme hostility towards a person or persons besides political affiliations. Presently some of the folks losing their civil service jobs supported Trump. These firings are non-discriminatory and include Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and unaffiliated, etc.

The two men who tried to murder Trump were obvious leftists.  Just like the man who tried to murder Steve Scalise.  And the man who tried to murder Brett Kavanaugh.  And the plethora of people who have called or wished for Trump's death, having nothing to do with losing their jobs, all of whom are leftists.

Nobody tried to murder Biden, despite the fact he was the worst president in American history.  Conservatives were not all over social media calling or wishing for Biden's murder (like leftists have done with Trump).  That "both sides do it" mantra does not work here.
