DUBAI, United Arab Emirates  India (AP) — Israel pounded Iran with a series of airstrikes early Saturday, saying it was targeting military sites in retaliation for the barrage of ballistic missiles the Islamic Republic fired upon Israel earlier this month. Explosions could be heard in the Iranian capital, Tehran, though there was no immediate information on damage or casualties.

I don't think so. I think in the short-term Israel gradually consolidates land from the West Bank and Gaza and effectively incorporates it as its own. Maybe parts of southern Lebanon too. But I don't think Israel can survive without outside support from superpowers like the US. And I don't think the US will be a superpower for a thousand years. I think Israel's long-term survival depends on support from the next superpower.
