During the 2020 protests the schmidt announced that he wouldn't be charging rioters. Meanwhile an unknown benefactor (rumored to be Soros funded) wrote 600 dollar checks to anyone who was arrested. Get arrested and recieve a 600 dollar check. On top of that a Go Fund Me was set up for their bail money. So, they get arrested, post bail, charges are dropped, they are given back their bail money.
Between the 600 bucks and the returned bail protestors were earning a thousand dollars every single time they were arrested.
