I might agree, but you know "society" won't agree. If they did separate them on a large scale, or sent out the kid with the parent, I have no doubt the border agents and military won't do their job. I think military has a lot of hispanics too and might balk at arresting their co-ethnics or even "family" It's like politicians in Israel complaining, saying they would kill all 2 million palestinians "but the world won't let us." Not viable politically. Anyway will be interesting to see how this develops.

Removing undocumented immigrants will create an entirely new challenge. What happens to the children left behind? Would they voluntarily return to their parents’ countries? Would those countries accept them if they're not citizens? Or would these children remain in the US ending up in the foster system as wards of the state? If there are really 20 million illegals that could be an enormous burden on the foster system. It is easy to say you don't care what happens, but they end up becoming criminals and dregs of society.

My guess is that the actual number of deportations ends up being much lower than what's being discussed in the media. The government will establish new enforcement policies but only apply them selectively targeting a smaller group of violent offenders. The publicity from this will discourage further border crossings.

Opposition politicians like Kamala were bailing out the protesters Trump wanted in jail. It could be the same here, Trump demands deporations but other politicians actively sabotage the effort. I just don't see this working out anywhere close to how Trump would want it or how he's promised.
