Is it common to wear shoes inside in the UK? I know I've asked before but here everyone automatically takes off their shoes, though sometimes the occupant says 'no need to take off your shoes,' and some provide slippers for the guests 

My buddy had a little 'problem' with his new gf. She provided slippers for him but asked him to take them off when going to the bathroom so as not to spread bathroom germs. Thoughts on this everyone? My buddy is extremely tidy himself, can't have fingerprints on glass surfaces and so on,, but even he thought this was a little much.

i grew up in a house where my mother did a lot of sewing, there were always pins in the carpet, lost count of the number of times I had to pull pins or needles out of my feet, I once has to put thread through the eye of a needle to get it out because it went so far in....

The shoes off is pretty common where I come from. In fact even if the homeowner dorsn't ask, it's common for guest's to ask " should I take my shoes off"?

But that was an example for arguments sake. My point is the landowner reserves the right. It could be anything whether it's moving your truck or removing your shoes or smoking in your house or business or whatever.
