Inside the French Foreign Legions Special Forces
« on: January 01, 2025, 07:06:33 AM »
&t=2558s

Hardcore, good new years motivation.

When I was 15 I was dead set on joining the legion, I was studying French, going on long runs in the early morning before school in the dark or climbing out my bedroom window with a 100lbs of weights in my army pack and walking up and down the steep field next to my house sometimes backwards with a balaclava on, in the snow filling my lungs with the crisp winter air, pounding the weights for hours when I got home from school, smashing the opposition on the rugby pitch, being the strongest fittest bastard coming close second in the cross country race, fighting with and strangling the necks of bullies in school and arm wrestling the strongest teacher and nearly beating him and climbing Italys highest independent peak the Grand Paradiso in the thin high altitude air and jumping out of a plane with a chute on solo (automatic open)  Fittest I ever was. Then I decided to don the thong instead and wage war on stage.

my best mate is ex greenjackets and SF. a sniper. who is actually colour blind!

anyway he has worked with the foreign legion and said they are fit but absolute dogshit as soldiers. he rates Delta Force as the only ones as good as the UK SF

He currently earns his living training GROM in Warsaw. Nicest man you could meet.

So, according to him, they are in GREAT physical shape, but bad at organizing, coordinating and working as a team/oiled machine under pressure?

they knew what to do & the US Marines ( not SEALS ) took apparently 6 hours which is bullshit. I knew 2 guys who did the French " Commando course " & both passed it no problem, saying it wasnīt hard.one was a PTI & the other guy later went 29 Commando

Nothing I said is incorrect, you need to argue with the people who made the TV programme I watched.

The Foreign Legion are not special forces, they're assault troops, probably more comparable to marines.

I worked with at least one gunner who was 2REP, along with a Reg bloke and a bootneck. All described the Legion as hard work (especially discipline) but that the soldering wasn't actually that  complicated.

They have in 2 REP a unit honestly called "CRAP" & they have an Alpine unit in their 2nd Engineer Regiment

I read Beau Geste as a kid and was fascinated by the French Foreign Legion.

Pretty sure all the way up until the late 90's, they accepted people 'no questions asked.' Foreigners who joined could have all kinds of criminal history and use a false name, or nom de guerre.

But I think it was in the early 2000's that changed.

But you do know Ro that big muscles are not anything to do with military fitness.
Obviously you do but bodybuilding poses in combat trousers has nothing to do with any military training.
Only thing important is running & a lean physique in proportion to your height & weight.

I know that! But on a battlefield behind a gun it would not be so important to be built like a marathon runner. And a certain amount of upper body strength and bodily power is needed for that kind of military training not just aerobic fitness. Calisthenics are where its at for that. I did not buy those trousers just for posing in them.
