FEATS OF STRENGTH IN THE GYM
« on: January 14, 2025, 04:55:51 AM »
OK a quick one

Just watched a video form years back of nathan De Asha- of Propehcy Gym Fame- doing safety bar squats with 10 plates a side and barbell squats with 7 a side. Found it inspiring as i attned his gym and one other os you get to see it daily and it defo boosts performance.

What feats of strength have oyu witnessed and thought- 'fucking hell thats impressive'

Another one- we have a lad in the gym who has doen 6 flawless reps on chins with 2 plates added.

Flat bench machine with 10 plates each side?

100kilo dumbell rows

Dips with 50 kilo added

A female competitor didd 3 plate front squats on the smith.

I know fortress wes illuminati  and co will have some tales to tell!

Jeff is a bit above this- I mean that in the nicest sense as esnot that arsed! or impressed! Any more relaxed the man would be horizontal!

used to be a guy who trained at a gym I went to years ago, skinny guy into martial arts

Used to be able to deadlift 500lb, hack squat with around 500, also unreal grip strength picking plates up one handed
Guy was around 140lb, he used to say it was all mental, someone once saw him breaking housebricks with karate chops on some spare land

Bit odd but incredibly strong

martial arts always raises some weird people

a lad we used to train with used to lie on broken glass - there is apparently a technique to it. he used to claim he could slow his breathing so there would be no blood near the effected area so no cut.

anyway one day after a beer some bird challenged him to it. but she set the glass up. he lay down on it and got cut to fuck. obviously fucked his breathing!

Good friend and former training partner was the best squatter I have personally seen.  One day I watched him do a routine of 515 for twenty reps, 535 for twenty reps, 585 for five reps and then a final set of 515 for twenty reps.  He did these weights with ease and they were done after leg extensions and leg curls.  He was about 6' 1" and 250 pounds.  I asked a powerlifter what he thought the guy could do for one rep and he said at least 700 or more.  This was in the mid 1980s, no stupid suits but he did wrap his knees and wore a four inch belt.

We moved to a new gym one summer that didn't have enough weight to go around and so he would do things like a single set of 225 for 100 reps.  Another day I watched him do 300 for 50 reps.  This was a guy that did 700 pounds for 50 reps on the inverted leg press and broke our leg extension machine while repping with 750 pounds.  Couldn't bench press to save his life but I did see him easily deadlift 500 one day when the power lifters were joking around with him.

Me?  Even though I'm tiny I can't really do squat on the squat.  Go figure.  My buddy said it literally changed his physique and I believe him.

While looking in the mirror I witnessed myself ez bar curl 205 for 10

Incline db press 175s for 6

Db shoulder press 140s for 5-6

I didn’t see it but I benched 495 for a triple.

Deadlifted 700

I never trained at many hardcore gyms so I was usually the strongest.

Although I did see my buddy bench 315 for 31 reps, bench 545 and squat 315 for around 50 and squat 495 for 20-30. He is a natural beast.

I trained most my life at a hard core powerlifter and Olympic lifter gym. So saw many many big lifts that still impress to this day. Maybe the most amazing was a woman 75kg, deadlift 250kg, bench 180kg and deadlift 250kg. All world records at the time.

Was always fun when I occasionally trained at a bodybuilding gym, and loaded up the plates to do squats etc. :)

An excerpt from an old thread I put on here a few times years ago about a monster named Bill Tolliver:

I actually witnessed what was about to happen next.....I honestly hope I can describe it well enough for you guys to dig the enormity of just what is gonna happen in a few sets time.

Anyway Tolliver warms up with various poundages and soon until after all the increasing increments over time are made he had just done a 700 pound squat like it was a fucking toy Tonka truck he was lifting.

So now he throws on 760 pounds........never squatted this much but since he`s go a few big dudes for spotting and a whole gym full of like minded psychos screaming at him he figured what the fuck.................... ........time to SQUAT.

Bar is loaded onto a normal power rack.........old school shit no step type rack or cage just steel bars with holes in it for pins, bolted into the floor, and bolted with a few pieces of steel at the top right into the gym wall.................... .just in case !!

OK Tolliver shoulders the bar after chalking his sweatshirt, the bar itself, and his hands...............the gym is silent except for the occasional word of encouragment shouted out by someone......he walks the bar out, remember now,he is just facing the rack...............not in a cage..........has big Walt Garwacki and John Longo on either side of him and Big Daddy himself Rick Britt behind him.

He has no problem walking it out backwards at all.........in fact it looked light,he gets set, takes in a huge gulp of air, drops ass and slowly and controlled lowers himself down then blows the weight out of the hole like it was a fucking rocket.................. .....no problem at all...........looked like he could do a lot more and if I knew him jus tthe little bit that I did,he more than likely was.

Here`s where this shit gets sticky !!

As he is walking the weight back to return it to the pins on the outside of the power rack,he has no problem, the guys are walking in with him just in case doing some good spotting.

Once he starts to return the weight to the rack itself,he begins to look a bit weird.

He gets the right side of the bar onto the pin no problem................t hen as he gets set to return the left side of the bar to the opposite pin in the rack, his finger gets caught between the pin and the bar with...... 760 fucking pounds on it.................no clue how he fucked this up but it is what it is.

He starts to panic as his finger is getting crushed which in turn causes him to lose the left side of the heavily loaded barbell................. .......the right side is racked on the pin per normal but now he drops the left side which in turn starts to make the right side "pull" itself if you will towards the floor................... .his finger is literally fucking mangled,he turns to walk away while looking at his mangled mitt.................... ..while he is walking away just as you or I would do..............just a normal pace walking away from the power rack with our back turned away from it.,the whole 760 pounds is falling and it tears those 2 pieces of iron that I mentioned earlier right out of the upper wall.................... .............then as it falls forward it rips the fucking power rack right out of the floor................... ....mind you Big Bill sees none of this he`s casually stepping away still worried about his finger.

All of a sudden that power rack came  down with the force of that 760 pound barbell yanking on it ...........it was moving and there was no stopping it now..............it crashed down and sounded like a fucking explosion just missing  Tollivers head..................he was still just slowly walking away oblivious to what was happening with the iron rack with 760 pounds pulling on it...................... .......reminded me of a giant mouse trap snapping closed a a high rate of speed with lots of power...............if he had taken just one step less while walking, that rack which came down  hard trust me, would have squashed him like the proverbial bug on a windshield.

As it was, after it hit the floor, years of chalk dust floated up and into the air like a fucking nuclear mushroom cloud !!

Never saw anything like it before or since.............Big Bill Tolliver almost did his last squat that day............. and it was by mere inches that he didn`t get turned into Big Squished Tolliver.

Another excerpt from an old thread:

Joe Dellagelfa from Hartford kicked ass on chins....held all kinds of records....1 finger chins,2 fingers, weighted, etc etc

He told me he got up to around 525 on a plate loaded leg ext. machine but could go no further..... he said he actually felt his shins bending....bookish thin guy with glasses who if he shook your hand you`d drop to your knees his grip strength was insane.....he had a huge deadlift too around 600 at 170 bodyweight.............H artford Barbell Studio....we went every Sat, morning,,,,,,Bob Galucci and Paul Santos trained there as well as Neil Hastey......animals..... but the biggest animal was the old owner Bob Colli....he was an old ex Olympic Weightlifter and used to walk around the gym without any warmups and do a few T-Bar Rows with 5 plates....wander some more then a front squat with 315....mind you he was jumping into people sets to do these without a warmup.  ;D

ace stuff wes!

there are osme strong people out there.

we had a fella who used to do sets of 4 plates and pause the bar at the bottom for  count of three- compeltely still- he could do a solid 12 reps like this. that amazed me because he was in total control of it.

That`s insanely strong!!

When I was a kid and left my cellar me and my buddy went to the local YMCA....not too many other gyms available back then except "health clubs" populated by mostly fags, and the benches would have naugahyde leopard spots on it and everything was done in chrome  :D

NO HOMO  ;D

Anyway,a guy named John Pezzote helped me and my buddy out on how to lift properly.....he had an official 500 pound bench done in a contest with a 3 second pause, and a 650 squat as well as a 650 deadlift......he would do dips with two 200 pound globe type York dumbells on two dipping belts, one in front, and one in back for reps.....he weighed about 265 but looked like a powerlifter.....not overly fat, but far from ripped.

His training partner who I located on Facebook had huge delts, was wide as Hell with a small waist and always a dark tan and could also pull 650......Joe Feddock was his name......he still looks great!

We also had a guy named Carl or Carlton Snitkin who squatted with 800 pounds (Google him),and a young Dave Mastorakis who would also do Inclines with the afore mentioned 100 pound globe type dumbells with plates hanging off of them tied with shoelaces as they were too light for him.  ;D

Plenty more strong animals there as well, that`s when I joined their powerlifting team cuz Pezzote always called me a skinny little strong bastard.

Unfortunately, after finishing school he fell into bad company and started drinking. He wasted a huge talent.
