Not Skimpy but some law schools have 80k tuition. If I can only borrow 20k that lives 60k out of pocket each year plus living expenses. That does not work for me at 47 that does not make sense. I can pay some out of pocket. I am not paying a quarter million out of pocket at 47.

Less than a week ago his "merit scholarship" of $17,500 covered half of the tuition, now he moves the goal posts up to $80K and doesn't mention that scholarship because he knows it's all bullshit, all of it.

Well, it is 17500 plus an additional 5k if I commit by Feb 1st. That is for each year so 68k total, but it is 22,500 a year. If tuition is 50k a year and they give me a 22.5k scholarship that leaves 27.5k a year. That does not include any living expense or books that is just tuition. If I get a 20k government loan that would leave 7.5k a year which is manageable. I have not been approved for any government loans yet. I am not paying 27k a year out of pocket. Other schools may cost more or less but you get the idea. I need to wait until I get my financial aid numbers to see if it is practical. I am also waiting on half a dozen schools. I will know a lot more in a few weeks

But I got in somewhere. I got some money. I can go to Law School next year if that is what I choose to do

Just because I would prefer a shorter commute doesn't mean I will not make the commute if needed. Just because I would prefer more money does not mean I will not pay out of pocket if needed. In case you haven't noticed I have been retired for 15 years its boring. The only jobs that want to hire me back are also boring data entry accounting jobs that don't pay much and are tough on my aging eyes.

Law School is not just about finding a new career. I could go back and get my master's in accounting if it was just about a job. Law School is about doing something new and interesting.

I can go buy a small house on a beach somewhere and surf the rest of my life. That is not what I want to do. I did enough of that.
