Following workout days I eat twice during the night. Once around midnight and another time around 4 am. In each feeding I eat the following:
1 cup of nonfat cottage cheese, mixed with 2 tbsp of wheat germ and three capusles of flax oil. (per feeding: cals- 240, fat 4g, prot 30 g, carbs 13g, fiber 2g). Sometimes I sprinkle some glutamine powder over it as well.
This gives you a low carb, slowly digested protein source, with a natural source of zinc. I disagree with posts that say it's not necessary to eat at night. Suppose you don't eat after 9pm and then not again until 7am. In that 10 hours, your body will revert to a catabolic state and during the night, the time your body should be doing the bulk of repairs to the micor-tears in your muslce tissue, it will lack the basic building blocks to do so. Anabolism is the state you want to be in. Plus, your metabolism will be far faster in the morning rather than the slow start up you would otherwise have.
Just my two cents, but it works for me and many others.
