Netflix to raise prices AGAIN
« on: January 21, 2025, 03:09:38 PM »
https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2025/01/21/media/netflix-raising-prices-subscriber-record

Netflix announced Tuesday it will raise prices on most of its subscription tiers in the US and Canada after the streaming giant reported 19 million new subscribers in the last quarter of 2024.

The jump in subscribers, Netflix’s biggest-ever, puts the streaming giant at 302 million globally, solidifying the company’s hold on the top spot in the industry.

Netflix attributed the service’s latest success to the Mike Tyson and Jake Paul boxing match in November, which it said drew 108 million viewers worldwide, making it the most-streamed sporting event ever. Netflix later hosted two Christmas Day NFL games, which averaged 30 million global viewers, making them the most-streamed football games in history.

The price increases announced Tuesday will see the standard monthly membership without advertisements increase from $15.49 to $17.99, while a standard account with ads will rise one dollar to $7.99. Its highest-priced premium tier, which includes 4K video quality, will increase by $2 to $24.99.

T-Mobil gives me free Netflix.

Plus my HOA dues gives me free Disney, Peacock, Max, HBO, and Hulu.

My company gives me free Amazon Prime, which includes their network.

And sometimes I still can't find something watch.   :'(
(Or rather, I can't find something to start to watch and invest in.)

Lucky bastard!

I get HBO Max for free via AT&T. The rest I have to pay for. I charge it on an entertainment credit card that gives me 4% cash back. So the best I am doing is a 4% discount.

It's a free choice, people don't have to pay such streaming companies. I don't have a TV so I don't pay for anything. I'm just amazed how much people want to pay, and how many people don't mind being ripped off.

They pay for Youtube, downloading music, netflix, prime, disney etc etc. Every subscription you can think of they do it. Baffling.

Do you download movies on a laptop? I buy $5 movies out of the bargain bin at WalMart.

Those still work?  I had one many moons ago.  (I forget the name) but I bought it and was using Krackle on it for streaming.  What apps are you using to stream on the device?

Yes. I cancelled cable, Netflix, Disney+, etc and stream all my content from the dark web using a service out of the UK.  I get local TV stations all across the USA and virtually any movie or TV series I want. 8)

Good for you.  How much per month do you pay T-Mobil?

$68.  ($136 for both my line and my gf line) I pay the extra $10 a month on both lines for unlimited international data and internet since we travel out of the country so much.  This doesn't include any phone calls, which we don't make anyway.  If you don't get the int'l option, it is $58 per line.

Apparently the much hyped hoax "fight" between jake paul en mike tyson was a reason for people to subscribe to netflix. Evidence that there is no shortage of mental baboons out there.

Do you watch these as they stream or do you download the to a device - computer, etc and then download watch them?

My experience in the past was Krackle was slow and choppy sometimes when trying to watch while streaming.

Not bad.  I pay Visible $25/month phone service and Netflix $6.99/month for a total of $31.99.

That price from T Mobil includes insurance as well.  But the free Netflix is a nice touch.  My Internet and cable from Xfinity is included in our HOA along with the free packages. There was a package deal similar last year from Hotwire but we all voted to keep Xfinity.

Are their sources still where you get new release movies the day after they hit theaters?

Yep watch as they stream,  you need good Internet.  Onstream does have download option though so can download then watch if the net goes down or want guaranteed no buffering.
