How do you feel about electric cars?
« on: January 22, 2025, 09:42:59 AM »
I am on the fence about them, but fiscal policy has me with my back against the wall. My concerns:
-range and charging issues
-fire hazard
-possible health effects from electro magnetism
-maintenance and repairs
-resale value

Seems logistically impossible for them to be the default mode of transport. Where will all the charging stations be for the same volume of electric cars as petrol/diesel.
Consider a tower block for example and if each flat has 1 car or more, where are they gonna charge? When filling up on petrol you're in and out in a couple of minutes,  turnover is quick, you can't have the same volume of traffic pulling in to charge, sitting there waiting,  just too many things that won't work.

EV's prob okay for short trips & round town
as previously stated how the Fuck does a tower block full of people
charge their vehicles - There's to many obstacles for them to be
replacing ICE cars - Plus there character less = No great engine sounds.

EVs have huge depreciation, so you can get good deals on them. Second hand ICE cars have been overpriced for years. And that does not seem to change.

I don't mind electric powertrains. But I hate the electric fold out doorhandles, the all touchscreen operation, no spare wheel, and all the super annoying "safety" software and sensors that bleep and boing all the time. Not to mention the car steering itself when and where I don't want it too.

But that alas also applies to many new ICE cars. I'm basically no longer interested in new cars because of the software and sensor overkill. And most are overly complex repair and maintenance nightmares.

Not just electric cars.

Electric lawnmowers, leaf blowers, power tools, motorcycles, bicycles, toothbrushes, etc.

Even electric military vehicles (tanks?).

Cordless battery tools  is great idea and can’t be compared to charging cars .You charge your Dewalt screw gun ,circular saw or whatever  keep going and second battery is charging while using one.
Cars do not have extra batteries to keep going without hassle of charging.

Depends on your general distance of traveling/commute.
And also if you can charge at home.

I would never get an EV not being able to charge at home I don't understand how you could make it work. You can't, basically.

For me it works because my commute is short and I can charge at home.
If I want to go far I have an old beater I can use.

But In general where I live gas prices are literally 2x of what US are. So much more worth it here with EV's.

I’m not ready yet. Cancelled my Cybertruck because it was ugly as fuck. As for the better looking EVs, I’m not stopping to charge every 200 miles on a trip. That’s gay and inconvenient.
