Wow, is this a surprise. This movie has been shelved for a long, long time due to the leading man’s sexual assault arrest. I had forgotten about it, assumed it would stay buried for another couple of years and then turn up on HBO Max.

I’m especially surprised it is getting a theatrical release. It’ll be a limited release, meaning it will only be shown in a few theaters in the big cities, however after that it’ll likely be available streaming.

I'm hearing even talks of Oscar nomination for Jonathan Majors.

Also, Marvel is considering bringing the Kang character back with Jonathan Majors now that the coast his clear.

As far as the movie goes, it will work better with a black lead. I don’t know why. I couldn’t stomach a movie where the lead character is trying to mimic Arnold, or look exactly like Arnold.

The movie opened in theaters nationwide yesterday. To my surprise, it is playing in many theaters, not just a few in a couple of big cities. A lot of AMC theaters are showing it, some Regals too. So check your local area.

I expect almost no one will see it in the theater like I did but it will run on streaming soon enough and in doing so be bad for the sport.

A movie where the main character is unrealistically autistic to the point of retardation and also a hair trigger violent criminal verging on serial killer is terrible for bodybuilding. It cartoonishly paints that as the bodybuilding lifestyle along with gay fan exploitation by Mike O’Hearn. All the tropes for steroids (liver tumors in mid 20s), binge eating, pathological shyness with women, etc. The movie sets the sport right back into the closet weirdo sexual fetishy status of the 70s. It also demeans all those hard training dieting and thinking folks out there who aren’t crazy violent weirdos but just regular folks who enjoy the sport.
