Responding to questions about the reasons for the sudden increase in water flow, Gene Pawlik, a spokesperson at the Corps' headquarters in Washington, said in an email that the action was "consistent with the direction" in Trump's recent executive order to enact "emergency measures to provide water resources" in California.

Pawlik said the Army Corps was releasing water from the dams "to ensure California has water available to respond to the wildfires." It was not immediately clear how or where the federal government intends to transport the water.

Aaron Fukuda, general manager of the Tulare Irrigation District, told the news site SJV Water that normally such flood releases are "done with a lot of notification and coordination."

"I've been doing this 18 years and have never seen something like this."

A little late for this.  Imagine how pissed you are if this could have prevented your home from burning down.

I’m sure most in the Palisades that lost their homes will vote for the same thing.

Especially after the insurance companies cancelled their policies.

Coach, living in California, one would think you would know your state's geography better. The water was released from the Terminus Dam and Schafer Dam into the San Joakin Valley (farmland). Just a little south of this valley, is Fresno, CA. Fresno is located over 200 miles north or Pacific Palisades. Also, the two rivers that those dams feed into, the Kaweah River and the Tule River, do not flow into Los Angeles.

Another problem, additional water was not needed by the farmers at this time. Recent downpours have soaked Northern California. As a result, the unnecessary water release may very well cause flooding as happened two years ago when Governor Newsom, issued a similar order.

You do know they make these things called pipes that can take water to places where rivers don't flow, right?

Yes, I do know there are pipes and aqueducts that can and do move water to places where rivers do not flow. For example, Southern California gets some of its water from the Colorado River via the Colorado River aqueduct. Perhaps you forgot that I grew up and lived in L.A. County before I moved to Oregon.

Apparently, you do not know that the water from Lake Success and Lake Kaweah reservoirs, formed by the Terminus Dam and Schafer Dam, is not piped into nor delivered via an aqueduct to Southern California, including L.A. County.

Los Angeles gets about two thirds of its water from the Colorado River. The Owens River also supplies water to the L.A. area.
