This gets a plea deal to misdemeanor assault. Watson lawyer wont risk the felony charge trial and the DA wont risk letting him walk. How much time he gets kind of depends on his prior and current parole terms. But I would guess we are talking months not years.

He did 10 years for burglary ,assault ,robbery and battery .Now he hit that black dude with dumbbell and cracked his skull .You think judge gives him few months??I doubt it.

No his buddy hit the black dude with the dumbbell. I don't think the judge is going to give him anything. I think his lawyer will make a deal with the DA to avoid that risk. He will agree to something on the misdemeanor instead of risking a felony trial and longer incarceration. The DA will go for it because the victim did have some negligence as well which could help him beat a felony charge. I would think he gets around a year and serves 6 months but you could be correct he could get more. I just dont think his lawyer risk a felony trial he will plea deal

I mean it is basic DA MO they overcharge you with a felony forcing you to plea guilty to the misdemeanor to avoid a trial and the risk of a felony conviction.

The problem with this common strategy is it forces people to plea guilty to charges they could possibly beat in court and they would be willing to risk that trial but they cant have that trial because they are being threatened with a felony if they contest the misdemeanor. It is not really moral.

God help me, I agree with BHank Esq. The bond was $5000, so I doubt they even think it's serious. If I was Watson, I let the lawyer string it along and grind it down. This won't be anything huge, also these things also wear down the "victim", good chance he gets uncooperative.

Oh yeah drag it out as long as possible is rule number 1 here. Make sure the other guys is all healed up before any potential trial. Hopefully he gets arrested for also being an idiot in the meantime but he is not a sympathetic victim. A jury isnt going to like the 7 foot monster setting up a camera for a gym fight. You just need to convince 1 juror he is innocent short man fearing his life from the 7 foot monster the DA needs to convince 12 he is guilty.

You keep asking me when I am coming to the UK. I plan to be there in August 2026 studying at St Andrews. I mean it is a year away I have to get through 1st year law prior but it's a 2-week program in the summer. You can take your spouse and everything. I think it would be really cool.
