Your thoughts on this. Trainer has been upping his dosage of creatine to 15G's per day and says its boosted his performance and says he feels younger. He says he has a very active lifestyle and feels that someone less active may not benefit. Would think he would bloaten up or look fat.

Creatine has been around for decades now, has hundreds of studies to back up the positive benefits.

It is now also marketed as a nootropic and longevity supplement in addition to it's performance benefits.

While it does have a high safety profile, Ive never heard of anyone taking 15 grams a day. I have no idea what-if any- side effects come on at that dose. It very well may work wonders at that dose. Because it draws water into your muscles I would assume it affects hydration. Anything affecting hydration could be harmful if overdone.

But , again, there are hundreds of studies on it at all kinds of doses and it is one of the safest, most versatile supplements. Try it for a week or two and find out...

Milos Sarcev reportedly has his athletes take upwards of 100 grams a day.seriously. I used to do 20 to 40 grams all the time as a kid. You had Charles Poliquin advicing 40 grams and this was early-mid 90s, I first took it in 1993 iirc. I think these bloat complaints are imaginary for the most part, and even the studies show it doesn't increase extracellular water, it's inside the muscle making you look harder. How much extra water do guys really hold on modest creatine, maybe 3lbs, it's not much.

its not that you hod a lot of water but it holds water in the cells so you get a better pump, you feel fuller

Once you stop taking it that goes away.

Exactly. I think that's generally a good thing, the cells get more anabolic because of it too. I never seen someone suddenly look fat or get edema from creatine. If it does happen something is probably wrong healthwise, especially if you only do the saturation maintenance dose of 3-5 grams or whatever  it is, don't know what could happen with 100 grams  :D My favorite was when users said Kre-Alkalyn didn't make them hold water when it was just the same plain monohydrate just dosed lower (a little ph adjuster added).

Except studies have proven it has dozens of benefits and theres ZERO kidney damage associated with it at doses of 5-10 grams a day. Theres no studies that shows it causes kidney damage at all but im not aware of studies done at 15, 40 or 100 grams a day.

Back in the day I was sponsored by Champion Nutrition............got there Creatine monthly experimented with various dosages.......noticed nada,zilch, nothing.

I have heard though that certain people don`t respond well to it much like guys who respond better to gear than non responders.

There was some confusion because of creatine/creatinine. I don't offhand remember if it can raise creatinine but I think it really didn't. There were studies on 20-30g but that was only a loading scheme not for long term.

Back in the day I was sponsored by Champion Nutrition............got there Creatine monthly experimented with various dosages.......noticed nada,zilch, nothing.

A little bit of sodium and an insulin spike helped but some respond poorly. Milos uses creatine with the insulin doses.

Early on, Poliquin and those guys were using horse creatine from the livestock suppliers because of the cost. I wonder what the mix was on that, most were creatine and dextrose mixes before they became popular. That was one of the little secrets, BCAAs, DMSO, Creatine, Trenbolone, and a bunch of other things all came from the feed stores.

Not really all that interesting, but a little bit of history.

I often wonder if this stuff is largely psychological. 

Getbigger starts taking creatine with the expectation that it improves their gains.  Then whether it does or not, they keep taking it, concerned they will lose out on something if they cease it.

If it puts water into the muscle it improves leverage so you can lift more.

Gaining fat improves leverage too which is why fat people are usually pretty strong.

1993 actually, I had to look it up. EAS products, which is what I used.
