Sprinters in the ‘92 Olympics admitted they were using creatine.

Maybe it was just a placebo or a lie, but they said it helped them.

You could get the livestock version for a bit earlier, like 1991 or so. Then it took a bit longer to sort out the rights to the human grade version. The horse version was a 20-25 gram scoop at a time, 2 x daily. Dirt cheap too, like $1.00-1.25 a 20 gram serving in bulk.

I used it when I was 20 years old and had serious benefits from it. I don’t think I ever used it after that. I was in college and it was an unnecessary expense but I don’t know why I never picked it back up. My wife started taking it 2 months or so ago for brain function. I never heard of that aspect. She has a kidney stone so she went back to the endo after she was taking it and there was no negative effects as far as he saw.

The innocent days when you used to mix your post-workout powders like a scientist, all within the 30 minute window.

It's interesting seeing here that people are using it as a "nootropic" nowadays. Would be funny if it's propaganda from the fart powder illuminati who were pushing it as a natty steroid in the 90s-00s.

There's a lot of studies on it. It was easier to sell a load of bullshit in the 90's.  All you had were fitness and muscle magazines, they wrote an article and you believed what it said about Pyruvate, Saw apalmetto, Sarsparilla or Folate. If you wanted more you'd have to go to the library and hope JAMA or Scientific American covered it.

Now, if you're diligent enough you can find the studies. Creatine is actually one of the most studied supplements.

Btw, aI don't even use it myself.  My workouts are just fine without it. But I have read the data backing it's safety and benefits.

If his calves are any indication, 15g is not the sweet spot.

Vanadyl Sulphate was pushed hard back then as well. Bill Phillips owned EAS and their "scientists."

Alas we are all not perfect.

I remember a bunch of useless stuff... the vanadyl was made by Sportpharma iirc and a bunch others copied it, Twinlab etc. If it really worked is hard to say, placebo is strong. The worry was that it's a heavy metal and toxic in those doses, which I took regardless at the time. But it really was used even by pros. They'll try anything. Bodybuilders will try anything. Many supps have a smidgen of data or truth behind them but most are not worth it. I did just buy a 50% off baggie of creatine, anything to stave off muscle loss I guess.

I loaded up on Creatine, Vanadyl, MetRx, weight gain powder, numerous herbs and minerals, Hot Stuff (my fav) ;D, Ultimate Orange, etc, etc, while training balls to the wall. I think I may have gained 2 or 3 pounds until I missed a meal and lost it all. Then I went to Mexico and bought some gear and gained 25lbs while training like a girl.

I take a rounded scoop daily (so probably 8g if I had to guess).

More than likely it probably does absolutely nothing to benefit my physique, but I have convinced myself that it does, just like with pre-workout. Lol

Creatine was so damn expensive during that era.  Like 50 bucks for a small bottle.  MetRx was like 3 bucks a serving for what, 130 -230 cal? Lol, can't remember.

It's funny though - I got to my strongest and heaviest when I had the least $ and took no supps - drinking the grossest shake 2x a day in addition to 3 meals and never missing it: 2 cups milk, 1 cup oats, a full cup of powdered milk ($8 a box) and peanut butter.  Horrible.

The oatmeal must have been hard to swallow.

I used to  put dry oatmeal in my PW shakes.....it wasn`t too bad considering some of the gross concoctions I drank as a kid.

Yeah, it's not bad if you don't do too much.  But a full cup wasn't good.

I used about 1/2 a cup......a full cup would be like gargling peanut butter.  ;D

93-94, the retail on MetRx was $3.15 a packet. EAS's original Phosphagain, which was MexRx's competitor when Phillips and Connelly had their split was about the same price at $3.25, but Phillips threw in some creatine in the mix on that version. Phosphagen, the regular bulk creatine, was on special from EAS at $39 / 200grams in 94.

Just a few prices I was able to grab quickly.

I remember the creatine being under lock and key for years at our local GNCs.

Edit - The original Phosphagain because few remember it -

.

It was horrible stuff, came in one flavor, salty vanilla. Also for like a year or two, they shipped Phosphagain and Phosphagen HP in those crumby cardboard tubes. God help you in you spilt some water close by.

Good find - I was close.

So 40 servings of creatine was 40 bucks in 94, or $1 per scoop.

Now 200 servings is 30 bucks, or 15 cents a scoop.

Fuckin' EAS lol.

No wonder he made so much money.
