Largest measles outbreak in Texas in years

Quote
It was Thursday, eight days after the Texas Department of State Health Services first reported a measles outbreak on the rural, western edge of the state.

On Tuesday this week, the number of confirmed cases rose to 58, the state health department said. The majority of those cases are in Gaines County, which borders New Mexico. Four of the patients had been vaccinated. The rest are either unvaccinated or their status isn't known.

Most of the infections are in school-age kids, and 13 have been hospitalized.

Measles is one of the most contagious viruses in the world. The latest measles case count likely represents a fraction of the true number of infections. Health officials — who are scrambling to get a handle on the vaccine-preventable outbreak — suspect 200 to 300 people in West Texas are infected but untested, and therefore not part of the state’s official tally so far.

[…]

The city of Seminole is the seat of Gaines County, Texas, and the epicenter of the current measles outbreak. It’s located in a vast, flat region filled with ranchers and peanut and cotton farmers.

There’s also a large Mennonite population, a religious sect that believes in “total separation from the outside world,” according to the Texas State Historical Association. These Mennonites chose to settle in Gaines County, in part, for its lack of regulation on private schools. This includes vaccine mandates.

As of the 2023-24 school year, Gaines County had one of the state’s highest vaccine exemption rates, at nearly 18%, according to health department data.

Seems bad to have measles outbreaks in the year 2025!  But with 1/5 people being unvaccinated, I’m not sure what they expected to happen.

What's the big deal with getting measles?

I had both types as a kid ( regular and German).

Every kid had the measles.

I had the mumps at age 6 mo. and later chicken pox.

Not sure why people don’t get vaccinated for that. Pretty sure the track record is pretty good on that vaccine so I wouldn’t have an issue with my kids getting it(they did, as did I) but I also agree with someone’s right to opt out.

Dishonestly about covid has led to general distrust in the medical establishment as a whole. People aren't getting vaccinated for other diseases because they feel they were lied to about covid.

As soon as RFK Jr was confirmed, he went back in time and talked all the folks in that town into not getting vaccinated for measles.

This is all Trump and Musk's fault.

It’s highly contagious and dangerous for small children.  It was considered “eliminated” from the US in the year 2000.  Personally, I think the resurgence of a previously-eliminated disease is a bad thing.

As soon as RFK Jr was confirmed, he went back in time and talked all the folks in that town into not getting vaccinated for measles.

This is all Trump and Musk's fault.

Who said anything about RFK, Trump, or Musk?   ???

Are there things?

That physically finer bred was sold by these fat fucks to Americas a long time ago.

These are skinny fats, later plain fats, that smell like a parfym store and slide around in their loafters.

Did you know that Arabs tried Somalian slaves in 17th hunderds. They would whip them to death but still they would not work. Not because of being proud and unyelding, but being so fucking lazy!

Not sure why people don’t get vaccinated

these ones are all in - they bought it.

the truth is like a penny on the ground… everyone sees it.. no one picks it up.

a useless, discarded waste of time - why bother?

truth has been trashed, and in its place a carefully constructed illusion is learned - disseminated - people have been helped out of their own minds, in a truly systemic fashion.

life has gone from tangible truth, to digital lies without skipping a beat.

modern ‘man’ has been subjected to mind control and ruinous chemical injections for the duration of its lifespan.

never stood a chance, really

look at them fight for their prison… its all they know.

I agree and I don't blame people, it's going to take a serious outbreak that does demonstrate historical benefit of historical vaccination is positive, there was a deadlymeasles outbreak in Samoa some years back from an anti vaccination position, rates are higher after it as now the benefits can be seen again. But the way they have shut down Covid and hidden all the vaccine injury is disgusting. Governments have behaved appallingly. You can't blame people for the loss of trust.

was at the doctors office today with the wife who is having kidney stone issues. 14 days waiting for hospitalization because of a current FLU and COVID thing going on. The doctor ( Obviously NOT a Joe Rogan or Kennedy fan) mentioned that if people would get vaccinated this wouldn't be an issue. There's even talk of setting up tents for patients. Now, coming from the GETBIG world, I highly suspect this doctor, who had us waiting an hour past our appointment time, and apologized for the long wait due to all the current patients, was likely just having a late lunch and making things up.
