Yeah I was surprised at how inexpensive the charging stations are. I just assumed they required some major installation with a much bigger price tag.
According to the information I found, it costs about half as much to charge and EV than to fill my gas tank which is 11 gallons. My car gets about 27 miles per gallon for city driving and 35 for highway. Over the past nine years, I have averaged diving 324 miles per month. I drive even less miles today than in past years and fill my gas tank every other month. The average price for an EV is around $60K. Kelly Blue Book comparable vehicles sell for around $15K to $17K -- none have as few miles as mine.
My conclusion is that for me buying an EV at this time is not advisable monetarily. It looks like I should wait until it is no longer legal to drive a gas-powered vehicle. It is estimated that in Oregon and other states, sales of new gas engine vehicles will be banned in 2035. However, there is no date set for which used, imported, or already owned vehicles with gas engines will be outlawed.
Of course, other variables could come into play, such as the price of gas, maintenance, and the cost of an EV.
