He doesn’t get spoken about as a broadcaster enough. He always had some incite that only a guy like him can really give being the best at his sport.

I saw his last fight and he actually won if you really watch it even though there was that sketchy decision. I think he was 47 maybe at that time.

I’ve seen hit pieces on him, but I really like his attitude about life and the experiences he learned from.

His age was always a topic when I was young so I thought he was much older than 76.  seemed to live a great life.

I agree Lartinos, as a commentator he had unique insight that was overlooked, even by his colleagues. Looking back I think the goal was to have George be a “Barkley” type as a boxing commentator.

Watching the old George fight the skilled fighters of another era was great too. His fighting style was a throwback and looked out of place, but he ate everyone’s best shot, literally push them aside and fired away.

RIP King.

Top 5 heavyweight of all time.  Could argue he's top 3.  RIP.

Shit, this is a bummer. I figured he was going to live into his 90's. I saw an IG video of him less than a year ago working out in the gym, hitting the heavy bag, he seemed as strong as ever. In interviews he still seemed sharp.

He was a true patriot too. Loved God, loved his country. Waived the US flag at the 68 Olympics when other black US athletes were raising their fists for black power.

I enjoyed the early part of his comeback.  He was fighting once a month or once every 2 months, fighting journeymen  and absolutely knocking them senseless.  He always fought on the USA network, their Thursday night fight series.

RIP Big George.

Accidently took a nap, and this is some nasty news to wake up to, great athlete, great man, great life. Loved his country and his family, and usually had a kind word for everyone. I've watched him on Twitter have long, meaningful conversations with regular fans out of the blue. He was cut from that cloth that didn't whine or lament the injustices of the World, he just grinned, and got on with it.

Lots of people talk the Ali / Foreman fight or the Frazier bouts, but if you want to see a great one watch this -

.

It's what boxing is, and a good metaphor for who Foreman was. RIP.

Absolutely top 3. He had no weak points. Great chin, and massive knock out power. People who mention his lack of stamina often forget that prior to 1982 they did 15 rounds of boxing. In late 1982 that was changed to 12.

A smart businessman outside the ring. Ali will be placed higher on the list than George, but Ali had great difficulty knocking out opponents. He usually had very long fights, and had to win on points.

Both olympic gold medial winners

People thought that was for the boxers health, nothing of the sort, it was purly for TV coverage so they could televise a fight in an hour with ad breaks

It was technically Tuesday Night Fights and I fucking cried in 1998 when it went off the air.  Best weekly boxing show of my lifetime.

Ali and Joe Louis are clearly 1 & 2. After that there is room for debate.  I have Larry Holmes, Foreman, Lennox Lewis, Marciano, Jack Johnson, Sonny Liston, Holyfield and Joe Frazier rounding out my top ten but in no particular order.

I enjoyed his fights in his prime, and I recall watching his comeback in the early 90's. Dude could knock you out with his jab. I also admired that in his early days he said his goal was to kill his opponent, but as he grew evolved, that changed. He turned out to be a pretty decent human from what I can tell.

dude was built to lay waste:

in his early days he said his goal was to kill his opponent, but as he grew evolved, that changed.

it sure did.

in the twilight of his life.. he broadened that goal to include everyone:

"This vaccine is for everyone and I'm proud to receive it in the heart of the city with people who make the city work," Foreman said in a statement. "Just like I knocked out Joe Frazier, now science is knocking out COVID to become the champion."

My top 10 is based on how good/dominant the fighters were in there era.  You won't meet a bigger Lennox fan than myself and when he is at his best, he's too big, fast and strong for many of his predecessors on my list.  I think Ali, Foreman, Holmes and Liston could beat him just as he could beat them.

Oh really?  That’s a very funny thing to claim, because the PPV broadcasts of the title fights didn’t HAVE ad breaks.
