My neighbour has been fucked up for nearly a year because of a tick bite. Got either meningitis or encephalitis - not sure which. Was in a coma for a month. Came home, is hardly responsive anymore. More of a thing in the house than a person. Very sad for his family.
Tick-borne encephalitis likely. Thankfully we don't have it here in Scotland/UK yet, but it may end up here eventually.
I hate ticks. I'm a regular hiker so am always vigilant checking for ticks. One each on me and my girlfriend last week. Neither had bitten yet.
Sheep dipping and cold winters here used to keep numbers much lower. Now they don't dip sheep and winters are becoming milder so unsurprisingly tick numbers are increasing.
I know a few who've had Lyme disease (note it's Lyme not Lymes fellas) and I want no part of. Alpha-gal subscribe is the one that leaves you allergic too meat, a terrifying thought.
