$6T of wealth gone isn’t a “dip”, it’s a historic event.

I think Trump has some good policies but this tariff thing is one of the dumbest of all time. Someone please explain how making goods more expensive for Americans—who already struggle to get by—is a good thing.  Because to me it appears as though it will plunge this country straight into a deep recession, if not a depression.

Do you really think the stock market only goes up?

If tariffs are so dumb then why does every country impose them?

Why is it ok for Canada to have 250% tariff on lumber to the United States, but it is unaceptable to America charge 25% on them?

This is what I don't get. If tariffs are so bad for our country, then wouldn't retaliatory tariffs also be bad for the other countries? So, aren't those other countries also just hurting themselves by doing the retaliatory tariffs on the US?

I guess the thought is, it forces production in the US instead of abroad, this creating jobs here and in turn stimulating the economy. I’d also wager that maybe he thinks it will cause the Fed to drop interest rates to make sure we don’t slip into depression. Just my thoughts, I’m not an economist though or anything.

It's a national security issue.

We can't rely on getting critical supplies from China and other potential enemies.

If Biden or Harris imposed these tariffs the media would be praising them.

Over a long enough period, sure.  But that will take YEARS if you just leave it up to market forces. Factories don’t just pop up overnight in response to a bunch of tariffs.  The responsible way to do it would be to carry out  a long term plan over a few years to transition back to domestic manufacturing.  Thereby minimizing any negative effects to Americans and the American economy.

Slapping a bunch of tariffs on everything overnight will just kill American businesses and strangle the American consumer.

Agreed.  We should invest heavily in domestic manufacturing.  Levying heavy tariffs on everything will lead to high inflation and tank the economy.  The next president will overturn the tariffs and it will have all been for naught.

If Biden or Harris imposed these tariffs the media would be praising them.

They’d be calling for them to be 25th’d, and rightfully so.  We are being driven into an economic depression.

The media would never be calling for the 25th on Biden / Harris.

They actually had a legit chance to do that and passed on it.

The dishonest mainstream media is still the biggest driver of unrest in this country.

"But what often goes unnoticed is President Biden’s role in continuing President Trump’s first trade war. In fact, more tax revenue from the trade war tariffs has been collected under Biden than under Trump."
https://taxfoundation.org/blog/biden-trump-tariffs/

"The Biden administration said Friday that it has finalized tariff hikes on certain Chinese-made products that the president first announced in May.  Trump implemented sweeping tariffs on about $300 billion of Chinese-made products when he was in office. President Joe Biden has kept those tariffs in place and, after the USTR finished a multiyear review earlier this year, decided to increase some of the rates on about $15 billion of Chinese imports."
https://edition.cnn.com/2024/09/13/politics/china-tariffs-biden-trump/index.html

"Back in 2018, lawmakers of both parties greeted President Donald Trump’s decision to slap tariffs on Chinese imports with widespread derision.  Six years later, most members of Congress are applauding President Joe Biden’s extension — and in some cases, expansion — of those tariffs, if not calling for him to go even further."

So these tariffs is going to cost everyone more money.  The countries they are levied against them won't be paying the tariffs.  But when the tariffs go away, the prices are going to come back down huh?    Who actually thinks this?   HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHA

After the “stable genius” moment of imposing tariffs on uninhabitable islands, Trumpy continues with such a winning strategy.

So let’s say due to market uncertainty the Fed drops interest rates, other countries bend the knee to get the tariffs lifted, and the stock market goes crazy. Will Trump get any credit for this? Will this market crash be temporary like we saw at the beginning of Covid? I’d like to think that’s what happens, but I’m not sure. It seems some of the world is coming around and wanting to work with America to get markets stabilized, if only for that reason. Will trumps bullying tactic work? ???
