Bowflex adjustable dumbbells sold at Costco recalled

Johnson Health Tech Trading and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the voluntary recall of the BowFlex 552 adjustable dumbbells on Thursday “due to reports that the weight plates can dislodge from the handle during use, posing an impact hazard.”

Along with the dumbbells – which were sold at Costco, Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and online through Amazon and BowFlex’s website – the CPSC says BowFlex 1090 adjustable dumbbells are also impacted.

I use spinlock db handles and add plates.

The bowflex DBs kind of suck.

Other than ease of changing weight, they are awkwardly shaped, and cannot be dropped.

Far better alternatives are out there now.

Plus the weights can fall on your head.

I think they make ones that are made out of metal or steel that seem more sturdy.

The plastic ones seem like garbage.

I have very similar dumbbells to these. Assuming they are the same exact design and they are fine.

If you try force adjust them when they aren't aligned properly then they can fall out. Or maybe you misuse them (as mentioned they can't be dropped) then there might be issues.

Anyway you can tighten them with a key before every workout if you're paranoid and that only takes a few seconds. Only tightened my set once in 5 years.

As for not being able to drop them. That's a non issue. They aren't really heavy enough where you might need to drop them.

Yeah, I had the select-tech version, years back. In theory, they should have been awesome, but they were too bulky and oddly shaped.

( inb4 "your bulky and oddly shaped too" jokes)
