BigRo vs Blockback - BOXING
« on: April 28, 2025, 08:40:37 AM »
We have two demonstrations of boxing skills. Let's try keep everything as neutral as possible. Ignore age, who'd win in a fight, if you like or dislike the person etc

Purely vote on which of these 2 videos you think shows more skill

Arnold was a clod.  Check out how he moves in "Hercules in New York".

Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane.

Bodybuilding type exercises, if done exclusively, make you slow.

Powerlifting, contrary to the name, does not develop explosive power.

If you want explosive power do movements like power cleans, snatch pulls, plyometrics, sprints. etc.

I do different kinds of training too like you mention, and am a good sprinter. There is nothing that Josh displays here that is better, if it was I would gladly say so.

Blocking all day. Faster hands, straighter punches, head movement, more responsible defensively.

Big Ro terrible form, plodding, awkward. A minimally trained novice takes him out in any number of ways. Brutal liver shot most likely as he is wide open to the body.

As predicted, total nonsense. His head is not even in the fucking video  ::)

I did Thai and boxing training for a few months after I stopped competing in 1996 and have pretty good movement

One thiung I learned in Thai was always keep your hands up to protect your head, they trainer had us put or hands up at the start of training and we couldnt put them down until we finished.
If you dropped them because you were gassing he just shouted at you "Hands up"

30 seconds front teep kicking a pad while someone walked you down had you blowing out your ass

If you are on a heavy bag your hands should be up at all times even when throwing a left or right the other hand should be guarding your head

I brought my hands back to a high guard there, perhaps dropping the non punching hand a bit like IronNat was saying, but if I bring them lower to demonstrate protecting the body then I will be called out for not protecting my face, there is no winning with this silliness, and Josh does not even have his stance in the video to make an assessment as to defensive/ head movement/ footwork etc,  only seeing his head when going for the left hook. I was waiting for his new video seeing as he made the challenge.

Blocking all day long, since he uses his hips and whole body when punching, instead of being a rock em sock em stiff robot.

Head movement, footwork, technique, using his whole body with the punch = Blocking

Blockingback looks like he punches from muscle memory. Just a more fluid and rapid motion. BigRo (nothing against him personally of course) looks like he's winding up and thinking about each punch.

Rapid motion? I saw nothing rapid or powerful there.

Lol don't go to Ukraine big fellah.  Your power comes from your feet stance and hips, stop thinking about how you look when you throw and think about that, your body needs to be in complete sync, Josh at least knows how to throw a punch. All good Ron you still win the posedown.

I know how to throw a punch, and you have no idea how I am generating power, you think I don't use these powerful legs? I am not thinking about how I look while throwing are you serious? Not only how I look aesthetically but how I look with what I,m doing there, I couldnt give a fuck about posedowns, why doesn't everyone post videos? Keyboard warriors.

Let's let the thread marinade for a bit and then the boxing experts on here can set the guidelines for the second video and we can have another thread and vote.

That should be a fairer way of doing it.

This has actually been marinading for like a week in another thread. I'm just making it official and trying to eliminate bias
