Sorry Donny - I couldn't resist.  ;D

I've been following more of a power training routine (squats, deadlifts, bench, rows, overhead press) lately and I've noticed that the jerk press (no jokes please) lets me use heavier weights but my shoulders aren't looking that much better. I'm really thinking about dropping this and going back to a normal full body bodybuilding routine. I miss my behind the neck presses that everyone warns me about but I've never had any issues with my shoulders so why quit them.

Yeah ..you got to do what works for you .. Push press i think is useful but i mainly try to do seated strict presses.
Incline bench presses are working it too so i am working more on my rear delts.
Rear delts are important which as you rightly mentioned ( in a way) with the BNP that work the rear delt/traps

I really like the strict press, I found I made decent gains from it once I incorporated it into my training.

The jerk would be the least effective since it incorporates the most technique and the least muscular involvement.

agree.. but was just interested in the comparison ..not just the exercise but maybe the body composition of the athlete

I´m coming up for 59 so i know  :) Heart attack behind me in 2023 but doing fine.
just be what you can be & keep at it. I actually passed a cardio test at my Cardiologist that was showing the health of a man of my age without heart stents so i´m happy with that

Olympic lifting jerk doesn’t do much for ones shoulders.
When done correctly they only catch the bar in the lockout.
You are not allowed to press in clean&jerk competition.

I find the push press the best. Just a little rocking motion at the bottom, not much, and keeping the ”push” same when adding weight.

For delt development a seated or standing military press (strict) is best. The only time I would incorporate hip drive on a press is with certain athletes as an explosive movement. I never did anything over head with my throwing athletes.

Save the hip drive movements for athletes

interesting, so what was important for these athletes, apart from hip drive.

I´m asking because i do specific exercises for Wing Tzun & escrima.
I do for example Squats for legs & i do close grip Tricep bar parallel bar presses for chain punches.
Other stuff too but i train these exercises for my goals.
