Where have you been?  AI is not about to take over everything, it already has.  Google recently told their employees they are transitioning fully to AI and to please leave the company now if you're not interested in that.

LLM are a subset of AI, so it makes perfect sense to call it AI.

As consumers, we are lucky Google fumbled the generative pre-trained transformer as badly as they did is great for consumers.  Seriously, eight years ago Google had a monopoly on the transformer and they TOTALLY lost it.  The CEO of Anthropic made a comment recently that he couldn't believe how badly Google fumbled LLM - going from monopoly to five strong competitors in a few years.  I think ChatGPT has surpassed Google.

I personally believe AI is as important as the internet and will one day even surpass the internet. 
The internet has been the greatest invention of our lifetimes, followed by the smart phone, and personal computer, and streaming.  We are all lucky to live in a time of such rapid technological advance.

Why anyone would not take advantage of these advances is beyond me.  The difference between asking a question in Google and asking the same question in ChatGPT, or Perplexity is night and day.  Most people have already figured this out, which has Google very very worried.

Actual full blown AI are for now, in house. only a handful of companies have it. Unless you are working for those companies, you get an LLM with AI lite backend.

99% of businesses cannot drop AI in because the people, processes, software are not structured for it yet.

It’s no different to autonomous car talk back in 2015 when everyone was certain  driverless cars were 12mths away….. meanwhile a decade later….. during Covid everyone was certain drones would be delivering everything to us in 6mths time….. meanwhile 5yrs later……  during Covid Nvidia began talking GPU for AI and everyone was certain AI would run the world in 2021….. meanwhile 4yrs later….

The hype train is what I’m getting at. We are already half a decade into the AI hype train during which the masses swear it’ll run the world next week…. Every single passing week. Instead, it’s a multi decade adoption process just like every other advancement was.

1970-1980 we got more colours on our PC displays. It wasn’t until 1980-2000 when CPUs took off we got mass adoption and productivity gains.

It’s the age old thing where someone says “wait 10yrs” and another says “it’s already here” every single day for 10yrs. Hype distorts people’s perspective of time. Honestly I doubt most don’t even realise 5yrs have passed already.

You're thinking about the evolution of technology in the wrong way.  What really caused PC sales to soar were the IBM Clones, Intel, Microsoft, and the internet via Netscape. 

What they call the ChatGPT moment occurred in Nov 2022.  Basically we are three years into AI. 

At no time in history has technology advancement been occurring at the rate it is now.  It is blazing fast and AI is driving ALL of it. 

The dollar amounts these tech companies are spending are staggering.  They're talking about $100 billion on a single AI factory alone.  Meta is giving $100 million dollar signing bonuses to AI experts.  This is serious business. 

This is the fourth of four major tech paradigm shifts in our life time.  At each of these shifts there is huge opportunity for new startups to take advantage of the the new technology which makes things that weren't possible yesterday, possible today. 

1) PC - Now anyone could have a computer, not just large companies and government agencies.  This was mind blowing at the time. 

2) Internet - huge impact on the world.

3) Smart phone - Caused major growth in internet traffic with 5 billion people accessing the web.

4) AI - as you mentioned these are early days of AI, but it is progressing WAY WAY faster than the PC, Internet, or smart phone.  It has upended all the major tech companies.  They don't know where this takes us.  What happens when AI is fifty times smarter than the smartest person on earth?  What happens when it's smarter than all of humanity?  Nobody know where this is going, but they all have their foot on the gas hard.

Where my opinion differs, not just to yours but almost everyone’s, is I don’t believe in the mass adoption in super low timeframe claim in the intent to which it’s meant by the masses.

AI goes back to 2012 and the entire time “it’ll be here next week” is hyped. Almost 14yrs supports my point, the big tech shifts like this are decades long play.

I’m saying 4.5yrs away from having business foundations where we can really begin to unleash it throughout processes and tools. That’ll be 18yrs at that point.

Once workflows move more to task based and emails are reduced,  that’s when you know we have turned the corner. That will be how AI changes jobs, it’ll eliminate emails because business will be asking AI, not people. We will just be performing tasks in the backend to feed AI outputs.
