Working on ladders?
« on: May 01, 2025, 02:12:40 PM »
Does anybody work on letters for a living serious question? When I was younger working or getting up on ladders never really bothered me or heights but as I’ve gotten older, I’m trying to get over the hump and feels have any insight?

How did you type letters instead of ladders and then switch back instantly?

I’m up and down ladders all day. I don’t go up a 40’ or 36’ anymore but I’m up and down 32’,28’24’20’ and 16’s all day. Not sure how to get over it as I have a fear of heights but I’m on ladders so often it doesn’t Bother me. I also slide down them instead of walking half the time. I usually end up bailing off a sliding ladder a few times. Season as well when I don’t have ladder arms on. I either try to end up in a tree or just hit the ground haha. If you don’t have to do it for living then don’t bother.

Exposure helps. Get to somewhere high like an apartment and just stay there looking down. Rinse and repeat if needed.

I mean, height are one thing but actually working on them. There’s been a couple of times where I kind of freaked out, kind of went into panic mode and almost fell from like 12 feet. I think part of me is a little traumatized because I lost a cousin that fell off a roof hit his head and another cousin just fainted same thing hit his head both past.

Dont worry about falling, falling is great, its the stopping suddenly on the floor thats the problem

And the only time you should ever go up a ladder is if its in a hole.

I go up ladders to paint my house or go up on the roof.

You have to be careful.

What bothers me is slanted roofs.

Maybe you are smarter about ladders now that you are older.

Crazy!^

I suppose no different than mountain climbers though.

No safety ropes or tie offs, no nets.

No insurance I'd bet either.

Likened to the old sailors who climbed the masts in churning seas.

Fantastic

Had to do some work on my roof recently and was surprised how scared I was coming down (going up wasn't hard). I felt like such a pussy I watched some Youtube videos on ladder climbing and had to go up and down the fucker like 20 times until it didn't bother me anymore.  :-[

Fred was a legend in the UK .. a steeplejack. One of the last few & he had an intelligent brain too because he had old steam engines & understood their mechanics . repaired them himself.

yea it’s the looking down or coming down too not to mention standing above the ladder before coming down makes it look. Higher

30 odd years ago I went through the fire academy.  Ladders was the worst part for me.

At one point they had an extension ladder, fully extended, 4 ropes tied to the top of the ladder, (2 on left side, 2 on right side, 1 set was pulled to the front and 1 set was pulled to the rear, anchored to 4 guys on the ground, evenly spaced,  maintaining tension on the ropes)  The ladder was well over 30 feet. The obstacle was to climb up one side,  over and down the other, while trusting your crew to keep the ladder upright. From the top it felt like 60 feet. The key was not to look around. Just look at each rung and plant your hand on it, one at a time. I fucking hated that obstacle.
