What do you think of using medicine ball throws to increase punching power?
Since I'm shifting to pure strength training I'll do very low volume which is best for pure strength so I'll have extra energy to spend on honing my punching power and skill
I think medicine ball throws with a heavy medicine ball are the best thing you can do to increase power. I remember reading Nigel Benn's autobiography as a kid and he mentioned that he would shadow box with 10kg dumbbells, so that's what I did. But I later invested in a 15kg medicine ball and would work on throwing that against a wall as explosively as I could. The ball allows you to focus on the correct mechanics and really rotate your hips.
The saying 'punchers are born, not made' is definitely true, but I'd argue it's more in regard to one's natural intent. You can definitely work on technique and explosiveness to build power.
