What Range of Carbs is Considered "Low Carb"
« on: May 05, 2006, 09:23:42 AM »
The phrase "low carb" is used by many of us in posts, but it strikes me as meaning different things to different people (it's like "tax cuts for the wealthy"- does it mean a tax cut for people making $80,000 or $1 million"?).  Friends I have who do Atkins (insanity in my opinion) restrict their daily carbs to around the 30g range.  Is 200g per day (my average) considered low carb, lower carb, moderate carb?

Depends on your lean muscle mass, anything under 1 gram per pound of LM is considered low

Thanks, that's helpful.  I try to match my protien and carb intake gram for gram, so following the 1-1.5g protien per pound of LBM results in 1-1.5g carb per pond of LBM.  I like Arnold's quote, something to the effect of the "protein burns in the furnace of the carbohydrate."
